Job SummaryBattelle is actively seeking a talented Lead Vulnerability Research Specialist. You will be part of a dynamic team in our Columbus, OH;
Chantilly, VA; or Beavercreek locations, where you will delve into embedded device technology.
In this role, you will utilize disassemblers and debuggers to rapidly analyze embedded device functions. You will innovate and refine tools that extend beyond current capabilities, engaging in daily research and debugging sessions alongside a close‑knit team of researchers. Key Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 8 years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with 5 years; or a PhD with 2 years; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficient in developing software for both user-mode and kernel-mode.
- Strong ability to read assembly language and utilize debugging tools effectively.
- Hands‑on experience with disassemblers for vulnerability research, such as Ghidra, IDA Pro, or Binary Ninja.
- Familiarity with assembly languages (x86, x64, ARM, MIPS, Power
PC, etc.) and debugging tools (Win Dbg, Olly Dbg, gdb). - Experience in vulnerability research across various operating systems like Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, MacOS, VxWorks, QNX, RTOSs, or custom OSs.
- Knowledge of advanced exploitation methods (ret2libc, use‑after‑free, type confusion).
- Understanding of exploit mitigation techniques (DEP, ASLR/NX).
- Proficient coding skills in
C. - Solid understanding of network protocols.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within small, fast‑paced teams and also work independently.
- A strong desire to continually improve and expand your skill set.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with the capability and willingness to obtain a Secret or higher security clearance.
- Experience with fuzzing tools like AFL or Peach.
- Familiarity with concolic analysis and its implementation.
- Experience in emulating embedded platforms for real‑time debugging.
- Hands‑on experience with microcontrollers.
- Knowledge of symbolic analysis techniques.
- Possession of an Active Secret security clearance.
