Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer (MSP Motor Carrier Officer) is a member of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED). Responsibilities- Enforce state and federal laws related to commercial vehicle operations.
- Conduct traffic stops, driver and vehicle inspections, and weigh‑station checks.
- Investigate crashes involving commercial vehicles and compile incident reports.
- Perform criminal interdiction activities, including hazardous material pickups and seizure.
- Participate in infrastructure protection operations and general emergency response.
- Operate independent patrols and exercise proactive decision‑making.
Recruits attend the MSP Training Academy in Lansing, Michigan. Training is hands‑on, lecture, and scenario‑based covering firearms, patrol techniques, first aid, criminal law, precision driving, water safety, defensive tactics, report writing, ethics, FMCSA regulations, cultural diversity, and implicit bias.
