Position Overview
This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Washington Division. The primary purpose is to serve as the Division Security Officer (DSO) for the Washington Division, directing the lifecycle of the division's security program and overseeing its development, planning, execution, and management.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the technical expert administering and maintaining continuing responsibility for the Personnel Security Program by implementing DEA and local policies and procedures.
- Act as the liaison for security‑related matters with other federal agencies or organizations (e.g., GSA, DHS, DoS).
- Process requests for clearance/access, changes to position sensitivity designation, and investigations.
- Plan, develop, coordinate, and implement appropriate physical security and crime‑prevention programs and policies for the Division.
- Serve as the subject matter expert responsible for information security, COMSEC requirements, and compliance of all Division offices.
- Conduct physical security inspections of facilities.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Selective Service registration or exemption required for males born after 12/31/59.
- Successfully pass E‑Verify employment verification.
- Subject to random drug testing and, if selected, a 1‑year probationary period (or 1‑2 year trial period). Probation is evaluated based on performance, conduct, agency needs, and advancement of public interest.
- Completion of a background investigation and maintenance of a security clearance.
- All selected applicants must submit to a urinalysis for drug screening prior to appointment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license while employed, operating a vehicle in accordance with applicable regulations.
- GS‑12:
- At least one full year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent in difficulty to GS‑11.
- Experience demonstrating: (a) managing security programs related to physical, personnel, information, or communications security; (b) monitoring facilities and personnel security systems for threats and vulnerabilities; (c) planning and implementing physical security and crime‑prevention programs; (d) reviewing and processing security and/or access clearances; (e) supporting security program compliance inspections.
- GS‑13:
- At least one full year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent in difficulty to GS‑12.
- Experience demonstrating: (a) managing security programs related to physical, personnel, information, and communications security; (b) monitoring facilities and personnel security systems for threats and vulnerabilities; (c) developing and implementing physical security and crime‑prevention programs; (d) overseeing the personnel entry control system; (e) reviewing and approving security and/or access clearances; (f) conducting security program compliance inspections and taking corrective action.
- Volunteer experience (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) is credited as qualifying experience if it demonstrates the competencies above.
- Time‑in‑grade and time‑after‑competitive appointment requirements must be met by the closing date.
