Job Summary /Basic Function

This position will administer the Department of Public Safety’s Security and Event Management program, including campus security, event security, event parking, and parking enforcement operations. The role collaborates with campus departments and venues to minimize event impacts, manage event traffic and parking, ensure appropriate security staffing, and plan for events while focusing on a positive guest experience.

Key responsibilities include managing the Game Day Security program, handling metal detection, and efficiently moving more than 35,000 football ticket holders into and out of the stadium for each home football game. The program is a high-priority initiative critical to the University’s safety, security, and reputation.

This position is not eligible for a hybrid/remote work schedule and does not provide visa sponsorship.

As a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act, the employee must report crimes to the Clery Compliance Officer and complete annual Clery training.

Department Overview

Boise State University’s Department of Public Safety oversees campus security, emergency management, transportation, parking, and integrated security technology. Level Scope

Manages a large team, including experienced professionals and subordinate managers. Focuses on tactical and operational plans, setting objectives, directing programs, developing strategies and policies, and managing human, financial, and physical resources. Requires broad management knowledge and risk assessment to protect organizational assets and develop campus-wide strategies.

Essential Functions
  • Provides leadership and management of Security and Event Operations under the chain of command.
  • Assumes Director responsibilities in absence.
  • Manages university event security logistics, including game day, commencement, homecoming, bronco day, large campus events, concerts, and sensitive events; provides outstanding customer service.
  • Develops plans and approaches for hosted events using a multidisciplinary strategy.
  • Provides operational oversight over contracted 3rd‑party security personnel.
  • Supervises Public Safety Security managers and contracts staff.
  • Monitors physical movement and placement of security equipment and items.
  • Oversees training of event security staff on policies, crowd control, evacuation planning, and basic first aid.
  • Oversees local, state, and federal law enforcement support for event security.
  • Collaborates with the Security Analyst on pre‑event threat assessments.
  • Manages the Federal Partner Program for football and major stadium events.
  • Works with Emergency Management to prepare for and mitigate crisis incidents.
  • Maintains current knowledge through journals, education, and professional organizations.
  • Plans and coordinates administrative projects.
  • Engages in departmental problem‑solving and recommends efficiencies.
  • Ensures compliance with scheduling policies.
  • Manages construction, selection, and oversight of private security contracts.
  • Collaborates on strategic planning and policy development with the Director.
  • Develops policies for off‑campus events hosted by the University.
  • Creates event action or incident action plans for major events.
  • Conducts after‑action reviews for major events.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
