Position: Corrections and Custody Officer 1 (CO2), BFOQ Washington Corrections Center for Women

Corrections and Custody Officer 1 (CO2) – Washington Corrections Center for Women

Location:

Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW), Gig Harbor, WA. This facility serves as a women's reception and correctional center. The position is BFOQ for female gender.

In‑training / Probationary / On‑call positions are available.

Interview Dates

About the Position

The Corrections and Custody Officer will provide safety and security, control and direct the activities and movement of incarcerated individuals, and maintain institutional security in accordance with departmental methods and procedures. Officers are expected to be positive role models and work to help inmates become successful community members. Overtime is an essential function of this role. All officers must complete the six‑week Correctional Worker Core (CWC) academy and receive ongoing on‑the‑job training.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor, supervise, and control the activities and movement of inmates.
  • Maintain security of the institution and enforce rules and regulations.
  • Use interpersonal and communication skills to correct criminal thinking and maintain safe confinement environments.
  • Assist in the administration of programs aimed at reducing recidivism.
  • Respond quickly to emergencies and incident situations.
  • Work overtime as required.
Qualifications
  • One year of experience as a DOC Corrections and Custody Officer, or one year as a Correctional Officer in adult or juvenile corrections with functions equivalent to DOC Corrections and Security Officer 2.
  • Bona Fide Occupational Qualification (female gender).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Legal right to carry a firearm.
  • Pass pre‑employment drug test and psychological evaluation.
  • Completion of CWC academy and Field Training Program.
Salary Information
  • Full‑time: $6,452–$6,945
  • On‑call/Hourly: $37.08–$39.91
  • Full‑time CO2: $6,615–$7,477 (Teamsters Step H–M)
  • On‑call CO2: $38.02–$42.97
On‑Call Position Details

On‑call staff may work an average of 32–40 hours per week, with no minimum hour guarantee. Incumbents will be required to attend six weeks of full‑time paid training immediately upon hire and will be considered for permanent or temporary vacancies. All correctional officers receive medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid sick leave, holiday pay, and paid vacation if they work at least 20 hours per week.

Telework Details

This position may be allocated for telework. Employees designated for telework must perform duties safely, maintain confidentiality, and may need to commute to a DOC facility for onboarding or other business requirements. Workspace may not be provided by DOC.
