Job Description

The Unarmed Security Officer provides professional security services for a variety of commercial and industrial clients, including remote work environments where health, safety, and security are the highest priorities. This position is responsible for protecting personnel, property, and assets through proactive patrols, access control, emergency response, and customer service while ensuring compliance with company and client policies. All duties are performed in accordance with NMS' mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine patrols of assigned buildings, facilities, and grounds by foot, vehicle, or electronic monitoring systems to ensure the safety and security of personnel and property.

  • Control access to client facilities by verifying identification and authorizing entry for employees, visitors, and contractors.

  • Inspect doors, windows, gates, fences, and other access points to ensure they are secure and report any deficiencies.

  • Observe, document, and report property damage, unusual occurrences, suspicious activity, safety hazards, and security incidents.

  • Enforce company and client policies and procedures by providing direction to individuals, addressing rule violations, and removing unauthorized persons from the property when appropriate.

  • Notify personnel of visitors and coordinate visitor access in accordance with established procedures.

  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, alarms, medical incidents, fires, and other critical situations to protect life and property.

  • Operate and maintain camp billeting, visitor management, and electronic access control systems while ensuring accurate documentation of authorized personnel and visitors.

  • Monitor facility systems, including fire protection, security, lighting, heating, ventilation, and related building systems, and report operational issues as required.

  • Provide transportation services using vehicles ranging from standard passenger vehicles to buses and off-road vehicles, as required.

  • Provide emergency medical response, including CPR, AED use, basic first aid, and patient movement, within the scope of training and certification.

  • Promptly report unsafe conditions or sanitation concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

  • Complete required reports and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental and operational objectives.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time professional experience in security, law enforcement, or military service.

  • Relevant post-secondary education may be substituted for a portion of the required experience.

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.

  • Ability to obtain an Alaska Guard License prior to employment. The applicant is responsible for the applicable licensing fee.

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and contract-specific software.

  • Must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, which may include a criminal background check, drug screening, physical examination, fit-for-duty assessment, and hearing test. Applicants who do not reside near an approved testing facility are responsible for travel expenses to the nearest testing location.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining positive relationships with employees, customers, and clients.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make effective decisions with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English as required by the contract.

  • Must comply with all company and client safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
