Construction Equipment Operator/Field Technician

Do you enjoy working outside, operating equipment, and being hands-on in the field ? Are you comfortable running machinery when needed —and jumping in to help with installation, labor, or site work depending on the project ? If you like variety, teamwork, and seeing tangible results from your work, this role could be a great fit!

About Us

MNL is a full-service ecological restoration company dedicated to Healing the Earth. Our services include native seed and plant production, shoreline and wetland restoration, prescribed burns, conservation grazing, vegetation management, and ecological consulting. We also support solar and infrastructure projects with pollinator-friendly practices and land stewardship expertise.

Our Construction Department plays a hands-on role in restoring natural ecosystems through site preparation, grading, seeding, planting, erosion control, and forestry work, turning technical plans into thriving landscapes.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an Equipment Operator/Field Technician to join our Construction team based in Glyndon, MN . This hybrid role blends equipment operation and hands-on field installation work, depending on project needs, to support a wide range of ecological restoration and construction projects.

As a Field Tech Operator, you’ll operate equipment when required and perform physical field and installation work when projects call for it. This role is ideal for someone with construction, agriculture, landscaping, or equipment experience who values variety, teamwork, and working outdoors.

This is a field-based position that includes regular travel to project sites, including some overnight stays, especially during the busy spring–fall season.

What You Will Do

  • Operate a variety of mid-sized and compact equipment such as tractors, skid steers, UTVs, and restoration implements.
  • Perform hands-on field and construction tasks including native seeding, planting, erosion control installation, shoreline stabilization, and site preparation.
  • Use and maintain tools and light machinery such as chainsaws, augers, pumps, sprayers, mowers, and small engines.
  • Read and follow project plans, maps, and directions from superintendents and foremen.
  • Assist with hauling, loading, and transporting equipment and materials to and from job sites.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and safety inspections.
  • Communicate daily progress, needs, and issues with project leaders and crew members.
  • Complete daily work logs and basic project documentation.
  • Support other field and installation tasks as needed to keep projects moving efficiently.
  • Travel, as needed, to in-state and occasional out-of-state (North Dakota) job sites

What You Will Need To Be Successful

  • 2+ years of experience in construction, agriculture, landscaping, restoration, or a related field.
  • Experience operating equipment or machinery, with willingness to perform both operating and labor tasks.
  • Ability to safely use and perform basic maintenance on tools, equipment, and machinery.
  • Comfort reading site plans, maps, and following detailed instructions.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Willingness to travel regularly and work long hours in outdoor field conditions.
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain within 6 months (with company assistance):
  • Class A CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, project management software, and ERP systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand or sit for extended periods, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
