$27.92 - $31.06 Per hour* (plus pay for water and wastewater certification).

* Indicates the salary listed as per the OPSEU Collective Agreement.

In accordance with the OPSEU Collective Agreement the following posting is restricted to OPSEU represented employees who have or have been deemed to have received a notice of layoff and eligible for a Targeted Direct Assignment in accordance with OPSEU Article 20.

About the job

In this role, you will operate and maintain water and wastewater facilities within the Region.

What you bring to the team
Mandatory

You are an OPSEU represented employee who has or has been deemed to have received a notice of layoff and eligible for a Targeted Direct Assignment.

  • You have elected to remain employed for possible targeted direct assignment.
  • You meet the entry level qualifications for this position.
  • Your current home position is in the same classification or in the same class series within a range of two classifications below your current home position, or
  • You have previously held on a full-time basis a position within the same classification, or
  • You have previously held on a temporary basis for at least 12 months a position within the same classification and performed the full range of job duties.
  • For temporary opportunities over 6 months: you are in the last 2 months of your notice and your current home position is in the same ministry.

Or as per article 20.6, Recall, you are a person who has been laid off and are entitled to be assigned to a vacant position within twenty-four months after your lay-off date provided that:

  • You did not take your termination payments;
  • You are qualified to perform the required duties and;
  • The vacant position is in the same classification and ministry as your former position.

Classifications and requirements include:
Class 1 Wastewater Treatment, Class 1 Wastewater Collection, Class 1 Water Treatment and Class 1 Water Distribution and Supply. A lesser qualified candidate may be considered as an under-fill minimum Operator-in-Training (OIT), as specified in O.Reg. 128/04 and O.Reg. 129/04.

Should a successful applicant be employed as an under-fill Operator, you will be required to write and pass the required Class 1 certification exams and Limited Surface Water or Ground Water subsystem within 180 days from start date.

Must be available for overtime and on-call after regular hours as part of a rotation and able to respond in a timely manner. Valid Class G driver's license.

Knowledge
  • Good knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes to operate the facilities.
  • Experience with maintenance and repair of equipment and structures, including basic electrical repair, welding, plumbing, millwright and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related acts, codes, policies, and procedures for water and wastewater operations and maintenance; WHMIS.
  • Familiarity with regulatory acts, codes and procedures related to water and wastewater operations.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and chemistry for chemical and process calculations.
  • Ability to interpret maintenance manuals, blueprints and technical specifications; knowledge of handling industrial chemicals.
  • Familiarity with computers, monitoring and operating systems;
    Computerized Maintenance Management Systems is an asset.
