Overview
This recruitment will establish a candidate pool of qualified competitive applicants and will be used to fill future vacancies for the Desert Region as they become available with the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS). The County of Riverside's Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) seeks multiple Social Services Practitioner III positions for its Desert Regions including Blythe, CA for the Adult Services Division (ASD). Frequent driving may be required for all positions. Competitive candidates will be referred to the department on an ongoing basis.
Responsibilities- Carry a caseload of the more difficult types of social service cases requiring a high degree of technical competence; assess client problems and develop treatment plans.
- Complete case studies to assess problems and determine appropriate treatment methods; develop intensive long- or short-term plans to improve or restore individual or family functioning.
- Act in a lead capacity for a small group of Social Services Practitioners or service employees, such as aides and volunteers.
- Act as a casework consultant to staff members without professional training.
- Function at a highly skilled level in areas such as counseling, protective services, medical social work, family services, community organization, and adoptive services.
- Participate in staff development programs to increase knowledge of social work processes and enhance technical competence.
- Provide therapeutic counseling in marital, family, and adoptive contexts as appropriate.
- Investigate and provide services to clients with safety, neglect, abuse, emotional or behavioral problems, disabilities, or other health conditions affecting functioning; provide services and counseling in cases of desertion or loss of a spouse, child, or caregiver.
- Interpret public social service rules, regulations, and policies to clients and the public; maintain casework records and prepare reports and correspondence.
- Conduct field visits away from the home office to carry out service plans and assess client needs; provide information and social work services.
- Assess the client family environment to determine risk to children/disabled adults/elderly; in safety cases, remove individuals when necessary and transport them following safety regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date electronic records of all aspects of client case management in a centralized database.
- Assignments within healthcare facilities may include studies of patients and families, interviewing, assessing psychosocial needs of pediatric patients, coordinating with medical staff, and providing patient and family support.
- Within the Child Life Program, responsibilities may include planning, implementing, and evaluating the program; education options vary by program level (Education/Experience requirements summarized below).
- OPTION I:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; one year of experience equivalent to a Riverside County Social Services Practitioner II. - OPTION II:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; two years performing casework duties including assessing client needs and formulating case plans. - OPTION III:
Master’s degree in a related field. - Positions assigned to healthcare facilities may require two years as a Riverside County Social Services Practitioner II or equivalent hospital experience; some roles may require ten years of hospital social work experience.
- Positions assigned to the Child Life Program require a master’s degree in a related field and relevant experience as specified for the program level.
