As a Family and Child Social Worker
, you will coordinate, conduct, and document assessments, screenings, and child and family meetings in homes or community settings. Youâll use a strengthâbased, traumaâinformed approach to assess needs, gather information from multiple sources, and support families through the CANS assessment process. Youâll build rapport with parents and caregivers, help them engage with services, and ensure meetings occur at times and in formats that work best for the familyâincluding evenings or weekends when needed.
Your work will directly support the wellâbeing, stability, and longâterm success of children and families navigating the child welfare system.
- Conduct CANS assessments through interviews with children, youth, parents, and trusted family members
- Facilitate Child and Family Team (CFT) discussions using a familyâcentered, strengthsâbased approach
- Coordinate and document assessments, screenings, and meetings in homes or community settings
- Use rapportâbuilding and motivational skills to support parent engagement
- Provide childâcentered, familyâfocused services to youth and families with extensive trauma histories
- Minimize stress during the assessment process by collaborating closely with the CFS Department
- Adapt communication methods (phone, inâperson, virtual) based on family preference
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of assessments and meetings
- Work collaboratively with CFS partners, caregivers, and community supports
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development
