Position: Home Study Caseworker
Location: New York

REMOTE WORK: Yes

LOCATION: Residency in the Columbus, OH area is required, preferably within 50 miles of a major airport (max 1 hour commute). Applicants residing in Michigan are also encouraged to apply.

BILINGUAL PREFERRED: English/Spanish

TRAVEL REQUIRED: Yes, 50% travel in-state and neighboring states

SALARY: $75,000 - $80,000/Annually

Overview

In this role, the Home Study (HS) Caseworker will be responsible for conducting time-sensitive and thorough HS assessments of potential placement for minors. The HS assessment process includes conducting background interviews, performing home assessments, and analyzing case information. The Home Study Caseworker reports to the Clinical Supervisor.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Conduct time-sensitive and thorough home study assessments for potential placements for children, including background interviews, home assessment, and case analysis.
  • Carry a case minimum caseload of 5 cases, services are provided virtually and in person.
  • Assess the safety and appropriateness of the potential placement using child welfare principles and social work best practices through phone/video calls, interviews, and home visits.
  • May be assigned Level 2 Post Release Services cases which require adherence with ORR’s and AI’s reporting requirements. Responsibilities include completing individualized needs assessments, developing case plans, providing ongoing case management services based on need, and conducting ongoing assessments of the safety and appropriateness of the placement through in person and phone/video calls.
  • Apply a trauma informed approach to support families in building trust through safety, connection, and self-regulation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of health care records and information in keeping with HIPAA and Protected Health Information (PHI) requirements.
  • Must maintain confidentiality in all program areas including information regarding youth.
  • Participate in regular training and communication sessions utilizing Teams, Zoom or other platforms required for meeting with peers, supervisors, and headquarters staff.
  • Submit case notes, assessments and reports timely as required by ORR and Applied Intellect using ORR’s documentation software and Applied Intellect’s internal software system used for case monitoring, maintenance, and storage.
  • Display professional conduct and ensure respectful interactions during any contact with children, sponsors, coworkers, supervisors, ORR representatives, and other vendors or community members.
  • Maintain a high standard of record-keeping according to Applied Intellect and ORR policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and maintain communication with key stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in social work, a behavioral science, or social services field with a minimum of three years’ progressive experience in the field of social services, case management, child welfare.
  • Experience in child welfare, child placements, family preservation and social service provision is desired.
  • Must be skilled at writing professional, thorough assessment reports.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and ability to prioritize duties in a fast-paced environment.
  • Position requires up to 50 percent long-distance travel with limited notice.
  • The position is remote and requires an appropriate workspace to complete documentation, phone calls, and video conferencing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, including using Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams for maintaining contact with supervisors, coworkers, and to complete daily tasks.
  • Ability to type and be computer literate. Comfortable with using a tablet/iPad, or laptop to complete daily assignments.
  • Fluency in Spanish is required, proficiency in additional languages a plus.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to comply with mandatory state reporting requirements for child abuse and neglect.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, insurance, a clean driving record and reliable transportation (if required).
