Responsibilities
  • Liaison between the Superior Court, the Prosecutor’s Office, and Probation regarding cases.
  • Supervise clients in accordance with risk level utilizing evidence‑based strategies to promote behavior change and enforce conditions.
  • Evaluate clients with complex or chronic problems.
  • Identify barriers to success and develop strategies to overcome them.
  • Facilitate crisis intervention counseling.
  • Discuss specialized treatment or supervision with clients.
  • Inform clients about available services and coordinate them.
  • Monitor case flow and treatment plans and consult with the treatment team.
  • Consult with judges regarding case status and case issues.
  • Prepare Violation of Probation documents, appear in court, and provide recommendations to the court.
  • Analyze case histories and maintain data for statistical reporting.
  • Assist team members with work in progress and case management.
  • Prepare and present cases for hearing.
  • Analyze and screen cases in accordance with existing laws, regulations, or professional practices.
  • Administer client drug screenings.
  • Perform field work, including home, school, and community agency visits.
  • Conduct risk and need assessment tools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite.
Qualifications
  • Open to employees of the Hudson Vicinage who have successfully completed the working test period.
  • Advancement eligibility for Probation Officer or Probation Officer Bilingual.
  • Eligibility is based on meeting all competencies for advancement to Senior Probation Officer as listed on the Career Progression Eligibility Form; no New Jersey Civil Service Commission promotional examination required.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in any field, supplemented by 24 credit hours in the behavioral or social sciences and two years of professional experience in interviewing clients, casework involving socioeconomic assessment, determining treatment needs, providing access to social services or therapeutic interventions, or preparing reports and orders with findings and recommendations.
  • Master’s degree in the behavioral or social sciences may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Valid driver’s license is required only if vehicle operation is essential for duties.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. according to Department of Homeland Security regulations.
  • Must agree to a thorough background check that includes fingerprinting.
  • Newly hired employees must establish and maintain a principal residence in New Jersey within one year of hire, unless an exemption is granted by the Employee Residency Review Committee.
Benefits and Work Arrangements
  • Hybrid work schedule available: up to 2 days of remote work outside Judiciary buildings with a requirement for high‑speed home internet.
