POSITION OVERVIEW:

As part of the Leadership team, under the general direction of the Program Director, this person will determine the Eligibility of potential families and lead the enrollment process. This person will assist in obtaining any necessary services required by the child or family and help in the classroom at breaks or coverage.

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain knowledge of all required documentation in compliance with New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) and Head Start requirements to ensure adherence to all funders and licensing standards.
  • Perform all job functions with a strong understanding of the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS) and ERSEA requirements.
  • Work with parents to complete application forms, establish family goals, and coordinate workshops to support goal achievement.
  • Conduct home visits to better understand each family’s needs and circumstances.
  • Attend staff trainings and meetings as required.
  • Support parents during the evaluation process.
  • Assist with recruiting and supporting volunteers, providing guidance as needed.
  • Participate in transition activities as requested.
  • Distribute newsletters, flyers, and other communications to families as directed by the supervisor.
  • Assist in organizing and conducting monthly parent trainings and meetings.
  • Support the creation and distribution of monthly newsletters and calendars.
  • Provide classroom support, including coverage for absences and lunch periods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate written and electronic records, including health information, assessments, IFSP/IEP documentation, screening tools, anecdotal observations, and other records required for the Program Information Report (PIR).
  • Assist in completing monthly attendance reports.
  • Complete data entry across all required systems.
  • Participate in all pre-service trainings and ongoing workshops throughout the year.
  • Attend all required meetings and professional development activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge and experience in the basic principles of child development.
  • Familiarity with Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working effectively with culturally diverse staff and families.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, internet, and email.
  • Personal qualifications in accordance with licensing requirements for Home-Based Programs, including emotional maturity, cooperation with program goals, respect for children and adults, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and sound physical and mental health.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond appropriately in emergency or crisis situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team with parents, staff, and community partners.
  • Ability to represent the organization positively within the community.
  • Visual and auditory acuity within professionally acceptable ranges, with correction if needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Family Development Credential (FDC) required; knowledge and experience in Early Childhood Education (ECE) required. An Associate degree or higher in human services…
