Position: County Caseworker 2 (Local Government) - Bedford County MH/ID (Multiple Vacancies)

Overview

BEDFORD‑SOMERSET DBHS is seeking a full‑time County Caseworker to support consumers with developmental delays, mental health needs, and/or intellectual disabilities. The role builds rapport, advocates for the consumer, monitors service delivery, links individuals to supports, and encourages self‑determination.

Responsibilities
  • Provide case management to individuals meeting eligibility for developmental delays, mental health, and/or intellectual disabilities.
  • Monitor, link, and evaluate services; make referrals as needed.
  • Maintain regular direct contact and conduct face‑to‑face case management sessions.
  • Develop individualized service plans in collaboration with the consumer and/or family.
  • Enter and maintain information in the computerized database, state systems, and charts in accordance with regulations and agency policy.
  • Offer crisis intervention services when required.
  • Coordinate with agency staff, supervisors, external providers, and community resources.
  • Arrange transportation or accompany individuals to appointments as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and other activities; may provide coverage in Somerset County.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full‑time, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday‑Friday with a 30‑minute lunch break.
  • Work hours may be extended outside the standard week to meet project or emergency demands.
  • Position reports to the BEDFORD office; occasional coverage in Somerset County.
  • Telework: new staff begin on a 6‑month probationary period; hybrid on‑site and remote work possible after 3 months.
  • Further communications will be delivered via email; check spam/junk folders.
Required Experience, Training & Eligibility Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • Six months as a County Caseworker I, or a completed County Social Casework Intern program, or
  • A bachelor’s degree with a social welfare major, or
  • A bachelor’s degree plus at least 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or related social sciences and one year of professional casework experience in a public or private agency, or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training including 12 college credits in the above subjects.
  • Applicants are considered eligible within two months of graduating with the required degree or credits.
Other Requirements
  • Pass a background investigation.
  • PA residency waiver is currently in effect for this title.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements
  • Position is covered by the Child Protective Services Law and the Older Adults Protective Services Act.
  • Conditional offers of employment require satisfactory criminal history reports (PA State Police, Child Abuse clearance, FBI clearance).
