Overview
The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Outreach Specialist connects, serves, and empowers WWP Alumni and their families by supporting outreach to wounded service members and by planning and executing Alumni engagement events and activities in a local or regional area.
Responsibilities- Connect with wounded service members, their families, and family support members who are transitioning or have separated from military service.
- Establish rapport and communicate the benefits of WWP programs and services.
- Recruit wounded warriors, family support members, and other supporters to participate in WWP events and activities.
- Plan and coordinate local or regional events and activities for Alumni and their families, providing networking, camaraderie‑building, and bonding opportunities.
- Develop and facilitate virtual programming via Zoom, Facebook Live, and other technology‑based platforms.
- Assess Alumni needs and connect them with WWP programs that support long‑term recovery and empowerment.
- Identify community events and activities that enable warrior participation and connection.
- Communicate and network regularly with wounded warriors, serving as a mentor.
- Build effective relationships within WWP and the broader community.
- Utilize expense controls and pursue cost‑saving opportunities to manage budgets.
- Serve as the local WWP representative at related events and facilities.
- Maintain accurate data in WWP intranet systems (e.g., Salesforce).
- Collect and report results and performance metrics for Alumni events and activities.
- Attend and participate in required training (e.g., orientation, ASIST Suicide Prevention, leadership, culture/team training).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High energy level and self‑starter with initiative.
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, and public‑speaking skills.
- Proficient in developing and maintaining professional relationships and rapport with veterans and families.
- Strong interpersonal skills with emotional intelligence and empathy.
- Organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to travel in support of WWP programs and services.
- Commitment to ethical conduct and to WWP core values.
- Minimum two (2) years developing and building relationships with veterans, veteran or military organizations, or community members.
- Minimum one (1) year experience with computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word and Outlook).
- Three (3) years working with military or veteran populations.
- Two (2) years planning events or community activities.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- ASIST Certification.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Valid state‑issued driver’s license required.
- ASIST Certification required within one (1) year of hire.
- General office environment; temperature controlled.
- Participation in outdoor activities and events under varying weather conditions.
- Standing for extended periods.
- Up to 50% travel.
- May require lifting/carrying items up to 50 pounds.
