Position: Chaplain (Part-Time) - Olathe, KS

It’s fun to work in a company where people truly BELIEVE in what they’re doing! We’re committed to bringing passion and customer focus to the business.

Position Overview

Chaplain – Frontline staff fulfilling the mission and Christian ministry of MCHAP, using gifts and talents to serve company employees and their immediate families.
Part‑time, Olathe, KS

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a messenger and conveyor of faith, mission, and purpose.
  • Interact with companies, employees, and the community exhibiting character through personal and spiritual disciplines.
  • Make regular visits to company worksites (usually weekly) to interact with employees and build relationships of trust and friendship motivated by Christian faith.
  • Visit employees or immediate family members wherever care can be expressed and help given: hospitals, nursing homes, funeral homes, family residences, or other sites.
  • Provide confidential pastoral discussions for employees and family members on matters such as family issues, divorce, serious illness, care of aging parents, death and grief recovery, parenting, financial situations (debt, budgeting, and other life issues related to financial stress), and other personal issues.
  • Offer referral service and coordinate specialized assistance to employees and family members with specific needs.
  • Assist in planning, conducting, or attending funerals for employees or family members, including follow‑up support during the grief period.
  • Make jail visits to employees and their families when appropriate.
  • Work with companies to provide notifications of death and serious injuries to families and other employees, encouraging those impacted by various tragedies.
  • Provide post‑termination care for laid‑off or terminated employees to support a smooth transition to a new work environment.
  • Facilitate, but not lead, spiritual enrichment activities—an employee‑sponsored event is usually more fruitful than a chaplain‑led event.
  • Distribute literature and other resources to assist employees with life issues, when requested or appropriate.
  • Represent companies to clients/customers regarding ministry services involved (e.g., serious illness, accidents, traumatic events, and funerals).
  • Participate in new employee orientation to explain the Employee Care Service and the chaplain team’s role.
  • With Executive Director of Operations (EDO) permission, respond positively and assertively to other duties and services requested by executive leadership of companies, within the scope of the Letter of Agreement between MCHAP Chaplains and the company.
Requirements
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary group and in an interfaith setting; ability to accept diverse lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.
  • Skills to effectively listen and interact with clients, employees, and families; deliver community presentations; handle stressful circumstances; maintain dignity and respect for all; document accurately according to standards.
  • Spiritual maturity and commitment to a Christian lifestyle and MCHAP’s ministry values; incorporate Christian values in daily work; fundamental understanding of the Holy Bible and its application; proven saving faith in Jesus Christ and active participation in a biblically based church.
  • Professional diplomacy, patience, and courtesy with diverse groups; establish and maintain effective cooperative relationships; provide exceptional customer service; make sound administrative and procedural judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; interact effectively with leadership, colleagues, employees, and families; maintain emotional stability when coping with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.
  • Analytical skill to define and follow up on problems or objectives; identify solutions and solve problems; interpret policies and procedures and keep others informed.
  • Computer proficiency with Google Suites, Microsoft Office, or equivalent software; email, messaging, and web‑based applications; ability to learn new technology programs.
  • Must have an active state driver’s license and state minimum auto insurance (in the state(s) where clients are served).
  • Conditions of Employment

Must pass a pre‑employment background check. Must have an active state driver’s license and state minimum auto insurance.

This is a remote position in the field. The work environment depends on clients’ worksites, which can include manufacturing facilities, hospitals, office buildings, and funeral homes with varying levels of temperature, noise, and light exposure.
