Position Overview
Adams County values workplace flexibility. This role offers hybrid‑remote working arrangements and flexible scheduling after an initial training period of 90 days. Employees in this classification are regularly scheduled onsite one to four days per week based on county needs.
Responsibilities Assessment- Respond to allegations of abuse and neglect of children/youth.
- Assess reports and interview victims, offenders, witnesses, caregivers, and collateral agencies to ensure child safety and determine the validity of allegations.
- Recognize risk factors and dynamics of child abuse, child neglect, and family functioning (including specialized caseloads).
- Provide crisis intervention while evaluating and assessing a family’s needs; complete assessments within 60 days to determine the necessity of long‑term support.
- Prepare court reports, attend hearings, testify, and consult with attorneys, judges, and guardians‑in‑litem.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Develop family service plans, court documentation, TRAILS entries of ROC notes, assessment completion, placement paperwork, service referrals, family time assessments, and related tasks.
- Review reports from service providers to ensure effectiveness of services.
- Provide face‑to‑face contact with clients as required by regulatory standards and agency policy (may include in‑state and/or out‑of‑state travel).
- Engage families/youth in finding permanent connections and participate in Family Engagement Meetings and Permanency Round tables.
- Supervise parenting time, facilitate goodbye sessions when termination of parental rights is necessary.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Child welfare knowledge including healthy child development, dynamics and effects of abuse and neglect, and the interface of culture and family systems.
- Experience working with children and youth ages 0‑18.
- Empathy and a strength‑based, trauma‑informed approach.
- Ability to assess safety, make decisions, and apply critical thinking to difficult or complicated cases.
- Strong collaboration and relationship‑building skills with varied backgrounds and disciplines.
- Excellent time‑management, prioritization, and organizational abilities.
- Conflict resolution skills and calm crisis management.
- Proficiency in computers and statewide client information system (TRAILS) and agency platforms.
- Clear, concise communication and document synthesis.
- Flexibility to accommodate client schedules, including outside normal business hours.
- Participation in scheduled supervision, team meetings, section meetings, and division meetings.
- Commitment to completing all required state and agency trainings annually or as required.
- Demonstrate professionalism during court proceedings.
- Compliance with state and federal mandates and timelines.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a human behavioral science field.
- Educational waiver available for candidates enrolled in a bachelor’s program; degree must be obtained within one year of hire.
- Proof of education (degree or transcripts) and license if applicable.
- Colorado Child Welfare Caseworker certification required, completed within three months of employment.
- Proof of a valid driver’s license and automotive insurance required.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Internal applicants in case‑management positions may have a 120‑day delayed transfer or promotion period.
- Bilingual applicants preferred; may receive a language pay incentive.
- Standard office environment competency.
- Personal vehicle or alternative transport for client visits, court travel, and other public facilities in all weather conditions.
- Ability to carry large case files and conduct home visits in potentially hazardous environments.
- Maintain access to state and county systems in compliance with regulations, policies, and agreements.
Hiring Range: $64,277.61 – $72,930.36;
Full Range: $61,805.39 – $89,617.82.
