As a County Caseworker 1 with Westmoreland County Child Welfare, you play an active part in helping families find stability and hope. This position focuses on helping children, youth, families, and individuals with various challenges work toward a better quality of life. You receive training and close support as you learn how to assist people in gaining social, emotional, and physical stability.
As a County Caseworker 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Training Participation: Attend agency training programs to build knowledge of social service methods and procedures
- Supportive Services: Provide basic case management assistance to children, youth, families, and individuals with special needs
- Guided Casework: Carry out assigned tasks under close supervision while gaining skills and confidence
- Documentation Review: Maintain records and review materials as directed by supervisors
- Professional Development: Engage in reading, meetings, and conferences to strengthen understanding of agency expectations
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours:
8:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday with a 30‑minute lunch. - Telework: After 6 months of employment, you may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part‑time, 1 day per week. To telework, you must have a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
- A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
