Summary of Duties
Provides services for families whose children are at imminent risk of out of home placement or who are in placement and cannot be reunified without intensive in‑home services. Conducts intake/assessment and service plans with families. Teaches and provides information on a wide variety of topics, including child development, stress management, parenting, nurturing and family life as indicated by participant needs. Adheres to the Intensive Home‑Based Services model.
Provides linkage to community resources. Available after hours and weekends as needed.
- Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field from a recognized accrediting agency. One year of experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field from a recognized accrediting agency with 2 years of experience in Intensive Home‑Based Services.
- Four Year College Degree from a school accredited by a recognized accrediting agency in social work, psychology, or a related field.
- Preferred:
Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field from a recognized accrediting agency with one year of experience. - Over two years, up to and including four years.
- Two years of experience with DHS' chosen model required for Bachelor's level staff only.
- Experience in working with domestic violence, substance abuse, and permanency issues.
- Experience in working with children and families including parents/caregivers who have harmed their children or threatened their children with harm and children who experienced harm or were threatened with harm and who experienced trauma and loss.
- Knowledge of child growth, development, and behavior.
- Knowledge of positive parenting practices.
- Knowledge of case management and advocacy practices and techniques.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with families of diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evening and weekend as required.
- Available 24/7 for referral, crisis response; ensure fidelity of the IHBS model.
Position Requirements
- Continued employment is contingent on successful completion of First Aid classes.
- Continued employment is contingent on successful completion of CPI classes or other Behavioral Management certification as may be contract‑mandated.
- Continued employment is contingent on successful completion of CPR, CPI and/or van driving training as such training is necessary to ensure ability/continued ability to perform essential functions of this job.
- This position is subject to a criminal background investigation and continued employment is contingent on a record clear of convictions.
- This job requires a valid Hawaii driver's license, a clear driver's abstract, and use of a personal vehicle to transport participants, as needed, as well as a willingness to travel in personal vehicle on an as‑needed basis throughout the island.
