Intake Specialist
At the Larimer County Department of Human Services, we strive to be responsive and provide timely resources in partnership with our community so that individuals and families are healthy, supported, and safe. We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic staff member to join our Children, Youth and Family (CYF) Division as an Intake Specialist. The Division of Children, Youth and Family is looking for individuals who want to work in a fast‑paced, supportive, and positive environment where you are primarily providing phone intake for initial referrals for child protection and adult protection.
Intake specialists spend the majority of their time on the phone taking these referrals, fielding questions from individuals within the community, and then working within different computer systems to process the information gathered from phone calls.
An Intake Specialist shift varies depending on the need. Shifts are 8 1/2 hours (with a 30‑minute unpaid lunch) and can start as early as 7am or as late as 11am, depending on the shift that is currently available. Shifts end as early as 3:30pm or as late as 7:30pm.
This position is a hybrid position and will require at least one day/week in the office. You will be required to have adequate internet access and space for remote work. Larimer County provides a one‑time remote work stipend to assist with equipment and office supply needs for remote work spaces.
Three professional references with valid contact information are required to be submitted as part of this application.
ResponsibilitiesWhat you’ll be doing:
- Conducting phone interviews and documenting referrals for both child and adult protection.
- Monitoring and managing a shared email inbox to ensure timely follow‑up on incoming tasks and referrals.
- Providing crisis intervention and connecting clients and community members with appropriate resources.
- Responding to in‑person requests, including walk‑ins, runaways, and juveniles in law enforcement custody.
- Acting as and provides resources to clients and community members.
- Managing background checks, records requests (CPS/LE) and other requests to help support the agency.
What we’re looking for:
- Good interviewing skills, strong verbal and writing skills.
- Ability to manage crisis situations.
- Knowledge of different computer systems, community resources, and ability to critically think through difficult situations.
- Time management and organization skills and be able to manage and prioritize tasks based on urgency.
To move forward in the hiring process, candidates must meet the required minimum qualifications. That said, we encourage you to think about your unique background and skills before applying. People often underestimate how their experiences match up with a role’s needs. We encourage you to apply if you meet the minimum qualifications and believe your skills and perspective can add value to this position.
- Two (2) years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's Degree, or equivalent education, from an accredited college or university preferred.
