College Intern
The College Intern is responsible for assisting the after-school team with implementing activities and services that support the growth and general well-being of program participants. In addition, observations and group work with students may occur during day school hours and under the supervision of a licensed social worker. Reports to Program Director, Licensed Social Worker, Program Supervisor.
Specific responsibilities include: assisting Group Leaders and Activity Specialists with implementing educational and recreational activities, facilitating and/or assisting with Restorative Circles, mediating conflict between participants and making referrals when necessary, supporting participants with their personal growth through observations, counseling and planning, conducting wellness check-ins of families and making referrals when necessary, participating in training and meetings, maintaining confidential information in accordance with program policies and procedures, and assisting with recruitment and retention by surveying participants and families.
Qualifications include: enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program with an accredited college, experience working with children and families is preferred. Works closely with site-based staff to provide services to participants and their families, has direct and consistent contact with participants and parents, works in collaboration with School Support Staff to provide services to participants, agency liaison for participants, parents and host school administration, makes contact with various vendors, other agencies and community programs.
Interns need to possess the following characteristics: be team players, have a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and clients within our organization, possess a strong belief in people's ability to grow and change; forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families, ability to set limits and maintain helping role of practitioner and to intervene appropriately.
Working conditions include: offices are in various schools throughout Brooklyn, NY. Remote/work from home as needed.
