Youth Program Leader

Youth Program Leaders are responsible for supervising program participants planning and implementing age appropriate recreational activities and ensuring a safe program environment.

20-40 hours/week

Shifts typically Mon-Fri between the hours of 7am-8pm

Season:
June through August

Position may be filled prior to posted deadline.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for attending all trainings, workshops, and staff meetings.
  • Work cooperatively with supervisors, co-workers, participants, and parents.
  • Ensure safety precautions are taken in all activities and follow proper emergency procedures when needed.
  • Ensure the activity site is safe and appropriate for the activities being taught
  • Teach skills and activities giving careful consideration to the specific needs and skill levels of the participant.
  • Prepare weekly lesson plans and information material related to the programs with the approval of coordinator.
  • Assist in the implementation and promotion of special events and trips.
  • Carry out suggested lesson plans and follow a logical; sequential order of skill instruction.
  • Supervise, assign tasks, and assist in training volunteers.
  • Welcome, include, and guide volunteer staff.
  • Communicate program needs and requests, including those of program participants or their parents to supervisors.
  • Communicate with parents regarding program specific concerns and information regarding individual participants.
  • Assist in the evaluation of the program.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Be at least 16 years of age.
  • At least one year of experience working with elementary aged kids.
  • First Aid/CPR certification within two months of hire.
Desired Qualifications
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Communicate effectively in normal; loud and stressful situations.
  • Move and/or lift materials and/or equipment typically greater than 40 lbs.

  • Representing the City in a professional manner to the general public and other outside contacts / constituencies in a manner that helps maintain and enhance New Brighton's reputation as a well-managed City.
