Position Summary

As a Disability Determination Supervisor, you will be responsible for directing and evaluating the activities and performance of all members of a unit of professional Disability Hearing Officers and Support personnel. With a solid knowledge of current Social Security Administration (SSA) standards and guidelines for disability claims, you will supervise a unit of advanced level examiners, manage workflow and provide ongoing case review and case assistance for all examiners and support personnel in the unit.

The DHU supervisor serves as a liaison between the DHU and other state and federal agencies, legal service agencies and support/advocacy groups.. In addition, you will assist the Section Manager, the Deputy Director and the Bureau Director in administrative duties such as public relations, committee assignments and delegated projects that affect overall Bureau functions.

Salary Information

The starting pay is between $44.00 and $46.59 per hour (approximately between $91,500 and $96,900 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. This position is in pay schedule and range 81/03. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to go through a complete federal background investigation. A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration is necessary prior to hire to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to Social Security disability data, records, and systems.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for these positions, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

For positions that allow remote working flexibility, working outside of Wisconsin or in bordering cities will not be allowed except in extremely limited circumstances due to the need to report to an office location in Wisconsin on short notice.

Employees must have access to secure high-speed internet for remote work option. Mileage reimbursement to the employee's headquarter location is not provided. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

* Experience in a leadership role performing duties such as coaching, training staff, reviewing work, etc.

* Experience adjudicating Social Security and Medicaid disability claims such as:
Initial, Reconsideration, Continuing Disability Review and Pre-hearing claims for Adult and Child claims.

* Experience interpreting and applying vocational guidelines related to Social Security and Medicaid disability claims.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

* Experience as a supervisor in a professional work or office environment performing duties such as performance reviews, disciplinary investigations, addressing performance concerns, hiring, etc.

* Experience in a leadership role over staff who perform production or caseload work performing duties such as monitoring staff caseloads, providing feedback on quantity or quality of cases, analyzing caseload data, etc.

* Experience providing policy or procedure recommendations or improvements.

* Experience adjudicating Pre-Hearing and Hearing level Social Security claims for Adult and Children.
