Location: California

Job Overview

Sexually Violent Predator Evaluator – Telework, Department of State Hospitals. Salary: $11,767.00 – $17,586.00 per month. Permanent, Full Time. Position

Responsibilities
  • Independently interview and evaluate inmates referred as potential Sexually Violent Predators, using a standardized assessment protocol established by the DSH.
  • Possess specialized knowledge in forensic evaluations, evaluation of sex offenders, and sex offender‑specific risk assessment.
  • Prepare and testify in court proceedings as required by the courts.
  • Attend or provide expert training and program consultation to assist other evaluators on clinical and forensic topics, including offender assessment, diagnosis, risk assessment, and expert testimony.
  • May be assigned additional forensic evaluations, job‑related trainings, consultation duties, or quality‑assurance initiatives.
  • May participate in specialized quality improvement initiatives, including quality‑assurance team, clinical consultation teleconferences, peer review, quality‑improvement research, clinical projects, development of evaluation standards and templates, stakeholder meetings, and liaison to outside agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid psychologist license issued by the California Board of Psychology and possession of an earned Doctorate Degree in Psychology or an equivalent field, from an institution meeting the criteria of Section 2914 of the Medical Board of California's Business and Professions Code.
  • Five years of full‑time postdoctoral, post‑internship experience as a licensed psychologist in the practice of psychological evaluation and risk assessment and diagnosis of sexually violent predators or an equivalent class of sex offenders.
  • Forty (40) hours of expert witness testimony in high‑risk sex offender cases or sexually violent predator cases; up to ten hours may be satisfied through Department of Mental Health training.
Working Conditions
  • Position may be performed via telework and/or flexible scheduling, but incumbent must be available for in‑person reporting when required by management.
  • Frequent statewide travel from the incumbent’s home office may be required, often with short notice.
  • This position is not eligible for Safety Retirement.
  • Timely report submission and self‑directed time management are essential functions.
