Position

Milieu Supervisor

Overview

We are opening a 13‑bed, short‑term residential youth crisis and stabilization center in Hennepin County. The service will provide trauma‑informed care for youth with complex mental and behavioral health issues, reducing the number of youths who remain in inappropriate settings such as emergency rooms, police stations, juvenile detention or unstable homes. The program will offer therapeutic supports while triage, assessment and transition planning occur with families.

  • Annual salary: $50,000 – $55,000

Position Summary

The Milieu Supervisor provides trauma‑informed milieu leadership and mentorship, guiding treatment plans through effective communication, organization and daily operation planning of the program and assigned unit.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of program procedures and systems that contribute to efficient, safe, and effective delivery of treatment services to clients and their families.
  • Participate as a multi‑disciplinary team member in developing and implementing client treatment plans and interventions.
  • Identify, analyze and generate alternative solutions for potential or current problems or risk factors on the program.
  • Ensure new admissions enter a safe and welcoming environment and meet all admission milieu needs of the youth and family.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling trauma‑informed daily treatment services.
  • Monitor delivery of treatment services to clients for proper follow‑through within the program and ensure family inclusion and communication.
  • Track the daily needs of youth related to clothing, dietary needs, court/treatment plan/referral source meetings, family time and contact.
  • Interview and hire new youth care professional staff members.
  • Provide on‑the‑job coaching, training and mentoring to staff.
  • Prepare assigned staff work schedules and approve staff timecards.
  • Ensure staff perform assigned duties and interact with clients in a calm, therapeutic, and trauma‑informed manner.
  • Coordinate and ensure that all shift‑related client and staff documentation is completed.
  • Provide direct floor coverage during staff absences, emergencies, and for on‑call coverage as needed.
Requirements – Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related industry.
  • Minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Nexus Home Office driving requirements.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with diverse individuals or communities and understand unique needs and challenges.
  • Open to meeting cultural needs of individuals and communities, considering language, traditions and values.
  • Successfully complete a three‑part Therapeutic Crisis Intervention exam and training.
  • Successfully pass a DHS criminal background check.
Preferred Education & Experience
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a clinically related field preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working with clients and families preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Assist staff in physical interventions and restraints of clients.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time (2–4 hours).
  • Twist, bend and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities within a residential treatment facility.
