About the Social Worker Role

The Social Worker provides services and assistance to improve the social and psychological functioning of KIPP Colorado students. The Social Worker works with students to set social‑emotional goals, develops differentiated plans to support students in meeting these goals, and creates a schedule for individual and group meetings to monitor and share student progress. The Social Worker ensures compliance with social‑emotional services mandated by students’ Individualized Education Plans.

Role Responsibilities
  • Believe deeply in the mission, values, and Race, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (RIDE) commitments of KIPP Colorado Schools and that all children can and will learn.
  • Assume personal responsibility for student achievement.
  • Read, internalize, and adhere to the KIPP Colorado Policies and Procedures manual and guidelines.
  • Provide an active presence, strategic supervision, and intentional monitoring to ensure student safety and engagement in rigorous learning.
  • Take ownership for the development of your craft and engage actively in coaching sessions (meet 1–2 times every 1 or 2 weeks).
  • Commit to being prepared: internalize and prepare for lessons, O3s/coaching, meetings, PD, reading and internalize written communications.
  • Meet professional obligations including deadlines and honoring schedules.
  • Consistently leverage existing professional tools, including Google Suite and Microsoft Suite (including email, Teams chat/meetings, Teams phone, Outlook calendar).
  • Maintain strong attendance and be on time to all responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and seek feedback to continuously improve.
  • Reflect on professional practices to meet individual professional development goals.
  • Actively participate in professional development, grade level, and department meetings.
  • Implement all school‑wide and organization‑wide professional development.
  • Serve as a positive, contributing member of a grade team or functional team.
  • Share candid, solutions‑oriented feedback with peers and leadership.
  • Assist with student and staff recruitment and engagement, including events, home visits, and calls home.
  • Travel around Denver to other KIPP campuses, the Home Office, or other KIPP or PD events as required.
  • Assist with duties such as lunch duty, arrival/dismissal duty, hallway duty, and other school support duties.
Evaluation and Services
  • Develop and execute needs assessments in the first month of the school year.
  • Use formal and informal tools and techniques, including observations and interviews, to evaluate student and family progress.
  • Provide services to students in one‑on‑one and small group counseling sessions.
  • Collaborate with the school team to determine services needed for each student based on IEP goals, personal goals, and school objectives.
  • Apply knowledge of how home, school, and community influence each other to intervene for student success through practices such as assessment, crisis intervention, home visits, conflict resolution, counseling, program development, dropout prevention, college counseling, and graduation awareness.
  • Promote family support of the student learning experience within a multicultural context.
  • Develop and provide training programs aligned with school goals.
  • Engage in individual and school safety implementation, including assessment/intervention for at‑risk students, child abuse reporting, and crisis response.
Advocacy
  • Advocate for change that responds to the needs of KIPPsters, families, and the KIPP Colorado network using statutes, case law, policies, and procedures.
