Entry Level Caseworker

OCR MISSION The Office of the Child’s Representative (OCR) mission is to give children and youth a voice in Colorado legal proceedings through high-quality legal representation that protects and promotes their safety, interests, and rights.

The Entry‑Level Case Consultant/Coordinator provides social work consultation on cases managed by the Office of the Guardian ad Litem. The role collaborates with the Managing Case Coordinator, senior case consultants, attorneys, and community partners to support multidisciplinary legal representation and systemic change.

• Ensure the OCR El Paso County Office’s case consultant unit supports the provision of effective multidisciplinary legal representation to children and youth.
• Contact families, schools, medical personnel, treating professionals, caregivers, and service providers to obtain information on children’s well-being and needs.
• Attend staff meetings with the Department of Human Services, schools, and community organizations to gather and contribute information regarding well-being and needs.
• Assess appropriateness of DHS proposed treatment plans and service providers relative to the strengths and needs of the children’s families.
• Review discoveries and prepare social histories assigned by attorneys.
• Monitor individual compliance with treatment plans and timelines as requested by attorneys.
• Engage in problem-solving and explore community resources to support families.
• Act as liaison between assigned attorneys and all parties of the case.
• Complete other case-related tasks requested by the assigning attorney, including those that support compliance with the Colorado Chief Justice Directive 04‑06.
• Conduct independent inquiries at the direction of assigned attorneys.
• Maintain appropriate documentation of work completed.
• Maintain strict confidentiality, including HIPAA laws and office business information.
• Meet with children, family members, and interested parties; conduct home visits as requested.
• Work collaboratively with the Managing Case Coordinator to develop expertise in consultation.

A valid driver’s license, personal transportation, and proof of auto insurance are required. The position is primarily office-based, with occasional remote work and home visits. Occasional out-of-office work may be required for family visitation observations. Reasonable accommodations can be made for disabilities. The role routinely handles emergent or crisis situations and may involve frequent interruptions, calls, and inquiries. The office noise level is generally moderate.

Special projects or duties outside the primary scope may be assigned. Travel to events outside the Front Range for meetings, training, and conferences is expected to be less than 5 % of the total work time.

• Undergraduate degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or related field.
• Experience with software applications, including MS Word and Access.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with others.

• Master’s degree in social work.
• County Department of Human Services casework experience.
