Position Summary

Part‑time chaplain position in Fargo, ND (2–4 hours per week). Chaplains serve the mission and Christian ministry of MCHAP by using their gifts and talents to support company employees and their immediate families.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a messenger and conveyor of faith, mission, and purpose.
  • Interact with companies, their employees, and the community in a manner that exhibits character through personal and spiritual disciplines.
  • Make regular visits to company worksites (usually weekly) to interact with employees and build relationships of trust and friendship motivated by Christian faith.
  • Visit employees or immediate family members wherever care can be expressed and help given: hospitals, nursing homes, funeral homes, family residences, or other sites.
  • Provide confidential pastoral discussions for personal issues of employees and their families, including family matters, divorce, serious illness, aging care, death and grief recovery, parenting, financial situations, and other life issues that may cause financial stress.
  • Provide referral services and act as coordinator for specialized assistance to employees and/or their families with specific needs.
  • Assist in the planning, conduct, or attendance of funerals for employees or their families, including follow‑up support during the grief period.
  • Make jail visits to employees and their families when appropriate.
  • Work with companies to serve notifications of death and serious injuries to families and other employees, encouraging those impacted by various tragedies.
  • Provide post‑termination care for laid‑off or terminated employees to facilitate a smooth transition to another work environment.
  • Facilitate, but not lead, spiritual enrichment activities, allowing employee‑sponsored and led events to be more effective.
  • Provide literature and other resources to assist employees with life issues as requested.
  • Represent companies to clients/customers in situations involving serious illness, accidents, traumatic events, or funerals when it is appropriate to offer ministry services.
  • Participate in new employee orientation to explain the Employee Care Service and the role of the Chaplain Team.
  • With permission from the Executive Director of Operations, respond positively and assertively to other duties and services requested by executive leadership, within the scope of the Letter of Agreement between MCHAP Chaplains and the company.
Qualifications
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary group within an interfaith setting, accepting diverse lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.
  • Strong listening and interaction skills with clients, employees, and families; ability to deliver community presentations and handle stressful circumstances with care and dignity.
  • Spiritual maturity and commitment to a Christian lifestyle and to MCHAP’s ministry values, with a fundamental understanding of the Holy Bible and a professed saving faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Professional diplomacy, patience, and courtesy when interacting with diverse groups; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, emotional stability, and the ability to manage human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.
  • Analytical skills to define and follow up on problems or objectives, identify solutions, and interpret policy and procedures while keeping others informed.
  • Computer proficiency using Google Suites, Microsoft Office, or equivalent software; ability to learn new technology programs.
  • Must hold an active state driver’s license and have state‑minimum auto insurance in the state(s) where clients are serviced.
  • Pass a pre‑employment background check.
Conditions and Work Environment

This remote position is field‑based and may involve visiting manufacturing sites, hospitals, office buildings, and funeral homes with varying temperature, noise, and light levels.
