Job Description Position Summary

The principal tasks of the School Social Worker are to help students and families make the best use of available opportunities and resources and to fully develop each student's individual potential. The School Social Worker brings to the educational process an understanding of the psychosocial development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences as they interact with the educational process.

Further, the School Social Worker provides the necessary professional skills to assist students and communities in problem solving and conflict resolution in a safe and healthy manner.

Key Responsibilities Student Support
  • Serve on student support teams and special education committees at assigned schools in the division.
  • Review student attendance records to identify previous barriers and/or interventions.
  • Support in the development and implementation of appropriate programs, groups and initiatives to target at-risk populations (truancy, behavior challenges, pregnancy, etc.).
  • Assist the school in following school board regulations for excessive absences and truancy; attend student support team meetings and court intervention.
  • Collaborate with individual school and/or system-wide programs to promote positive, predictable, caring school environments.
  • Facilitate student groups as requested by school site administrators, and offer individual student supports as needed
  • Perform duties as needed in relation to student safety, school climate, and student experiences, e.g. class observations, chaperoning duties, & club facilitation.
Family Support
  • Foster strong relationships within the parent and caregiver community in order to promote healthy communication between school sites and parents/caregivers, and gather context to make appropriate referrals
  • E.g. Acquire socio-developmental information as needed for special education, McKinney-Vento, wraparound services referrals as applicable
  • Supports in the creation of programming and supports that assist families in alleviating adverse conditions, in order to promote resiliency and academic success for at risk students.
  • Conduct home visits (with Community School Coordinators, school administrators, or school counselors) as a method to access the family and and offer necessary resources and support.
Universal Needs Assessments
  • Work collaboratively with home office student services team members to implement appropriate initiatives across ICEF network of schools.
  • Analyze and synthesize information to determine environmental impacts and appropriate resource needs; integrate gained information into an actionable report for the student services team.
  • Regularly review and assess data tied to student attendance, behavior and academic achievement to support early identification and intervention with at risk students.
  • Support with ICEF’s crisis intervention team and developing school-based systems.
Leadership
  • Participate in professional development activities aimed at current trends and best practices for the provision of comprehensive student services.
  • Engage as a partner with school leadership teams to identify and support any at‑risk students.
Additional Duties
  • Support with general education counseling on an as needed basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • An earned Master’s Degree in social work, education, or mental health-related field from an accredited college or university
  • Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential
  • Tuberculosis (TB) clearance
  • Background check clearance
  • Commitment to educational equity and ICEF’s mission
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Social Work (MSW) mandatory; license in Social Work
  • Child Welfare and Attendance (CWA) Certification
  • At least five years of employment in a mental health setting, working with school-age children
