Position: Court Services Officer 1 (40 Hours)

Job Summary

The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking an organized, customer‑service oriented individual with exceptional total quality management, organizational awareness, and interpersonal skills to join the Office of Probation Services, Juvenile Intensive Supervision Program (JISP) in the Central Regional Office (North Brunswick/Toms River, NJ). The selected individual must be able to handle a variety of technical and client support functions in a fast‑paced office and field environment.

The salary range for this position is $59,877.94 to $98,100.01 for Schedule A and $59,877.94 to $93,195.02 for Schedule

B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5 % of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule A.

Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule B.

Program Overview

The Intensive Supervision Program (ISP) is designed to treat both adult inmates and juvenile offenders in the community under strict supervision. Candidates undergo a rigorous screening process and, upon approval, abide by a set of rules that allow for continued release into the community, dependent on their commitment to change.

Note:

ISP/JISP is a statewide program. Management reserves the right to reassign employees based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare JISP assessments and assist JISP field supervision officers in developing community sponsors, network teams, group and individual community service sites, and employment opportunities for applicants and participants in the JISP program.
  • May supervise a caseload of in‑patient/residential placement participants.
  • Assist field officers in verifying curfews, treatment and community service attendance.
  • Conduct JISP intakes and have participants sign conditions of JISP.
  • Coordinate volunteer services of JISP graduates.
  • Cover field officers’ caseloads in their absence.
  • Provide court coverage as needed or required.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Work Schedule and Location

The position is a 40‑hour work week with an alternate schedule that includes nights, weekends, and travel to the Central Office (Trenton, NJ) and other Judiciary locations. The office offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing up to 2 days of remote work outside Judiciary buildings, contingent on installing a multifactor authentication app and having high‑speed home internet access.

Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree and one year of paraprofessional experience in case management in the field of probation or community development are required. Applicants lacking the required education may substitute additional paraprofessional or professional experience on a year‑for‑year basis, with one year of such experience equaling 30 semester‑hour credits. An associate degree and two years of additional paraprofessional or professional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.

Physical and Other Requirements

Physical Ability:
Applicants must be able to climb, stand, stretch, bend, and reach for essential duties. They must frequently lift and carry supplies weighing 30–50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.

Driver’s License: A valid New Jersey driver’s license is required only if vehicle operation is necessary for the role.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the US under DHS, USCIS regulations.

Background Check:
Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and subsequent actions.

Residency Law:
Within one year of hiring, employees must establish and maintain principal residence in New Jersey, per N.J.S.A. 52:14‑7. Exemptions may be requested from the Employee Residency Review Committee under hardship or critical need.
