Job Description at Blue Cross NC recognizes the dedication, discipline, and leadership that transitioning service members bring to the workforce. Through our DoD Skill Bridge Program, we provide a unique opportunity for military personnel in their final months of service to gain hands‑on experience in a civilian work environment while exploring meaningful career paths in the healthcare industry.
This program is open to only active military service members.
Eligibility Requirements- Active‑duty service members in the last 180 days of service at the time of internship start.
- Approval from the commanding officer and service branch to engage in Skill Bridge.
- Minimum commitment of 12 weeks for internship placement at Blue Cross NC.
- Clear end‑of‑service date aligned with the internship timeline.
Placement is not guaranteed and is based on available learning/training opportunities and the alignment of the service member’s skills and interests with organizational needs.
Selected candidates will undergo a formal interview process to determine fit for available roles.
Internships are unpaid and intended for training purposes only, with no guarantee of post‑program employment.
Interns may work remotely from any of the 50 U.S. states; U.S. territories are not currently accommodated.
To be eligible for full‑time employment at Blue Cross NC, individuals must reside in and work from one of the approved states:
Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, or Wyoming.
- Current resume outlining military and civilian experience.
- Command and service branch approval documentation, if available.
- Statement of interest or cover letter describing career goals and Skill Bridge program objectives.
- Final selection is contingent upon Blue Cross NC’s internal review and business need alignment.
The Blue Cross NC Skill Bridge Program is conducted in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD) policies, guidance, and regulations. Participation is subject to DoD approval, and all service members must adhere to applicable program requirements throughout their internship.
Service members are responsible for their own housing, transportation, and living expenses during the internship. Participation does not imply a future employment offer but provides valuable industry experience.
