Position: Chaplain Part-Time South Central Wisconsin

Position Summary

Chaplain is the frontline staff fulfilling the mission and Christian ministry of MCHAP by using gifts and talents to serve company employees and their immediate families. This part‑time role (2–6 hours per week) is located in South Central Wisconsin and operates with no guaranteed minimum hours; scheduling varies by chaplain availability and client requirements.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Serves as a messenger and conveyor of faith, mission, and purpose.
  • Interacts with companies, their employees, and the community in a manner that exhibits character through personal and spiritual disciplines.
Ministry
  • Regularly visits company worksites (usually weekly) to interact with employees, building relationships of trust and friendship motivated by Christian faith.
  • Visits employees or immediate family members in hospitals, nursing homes, funeral homes, family residences, or other sites.
  • Provides confidential pastoral discussions for a range of personal matters, including family issues, divorce, illness, aging care, grief, parenting, financial stress, and other life issues.
  • Provides referral service and coordinates specialized assistance for employees or families with specific needs.
  • Assists in planning, conducting, or attending funerals for employees or families, including follow‑up support during the grief period.
  • Makes jail visits to employees and their family members.
  • Works with companies to deliver notifications of death or serious injury to families and employees, encouraging those impacted by tragedies.
  • Provides post‑termination care for laid‑off or terminated employees to facilitate a smooth transition to a new work environment.
  • Facilitates, but does not lead, spiritual enrichment activities, preferring employee‑sponsored or led events.
  • Provides literature and resources to help employees with life issues when requested.
  • Represents companies to clients/customers when appropriate to ministry services involving serious illness, accidents, traumatic events, or funerals.
  • Participates in new employee orientation to explain the Employee Care Service and the chaplain team's role.
  • Responds positively and assertively to other duties and services requested by executive leadership, within the scope of the letter of agreement between MCHAP chaplains and the company.
Requirements
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary group and in an interfaith setting, accepting diverse lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.
  • Skills to listen effectively and interact with clients, employees, and families; deliver community presentations; handle stressful circumstances; document accurately according to standards.
  • Spiritual maturity and commitment to a Christian lifestyle and MCHAP ministry values, with a fundamental understanding of the Holy Bible and a saving faith in Jesus Christ; active participation in a biblically based church.
  • Professional diplomacy, patience, and courtesy when interacting with diverse groups; ability to establish and maintain effective cooperative relationships and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Capability to make administrative and procedural decisions on sensitive, confidential issues while maintaining emotional stability in the face of human suffering and emergencies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to engage leaders, colleagues, employees, and families.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify problems, define objectives, propose solutions, and interpret policies and procedures.
  • Computer proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, or equivalent software; internet, email messaging, and web‑based applications; ability to learn new technology programs.
  • Must have an active state driver’s license and minimum auto insurance for the state(s) serviced.
  • Conditions of Employment

    Must pass a pre‑employment background check.

    Work Environment

    This is a remote position carried out in the field; work occurs at clients’ worksites, which may include manufacturing facilities, hospitals, office buildings, and funeral homes. Environments vary in temperature, noise, and light exposure.
