Certified Peer Support Specialist – Family Centered Treatment

Lutheran Social Services (LSS) is a private, non‑profit, human service agency providing a variety of services throughout Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Over the years, LSS has grown to become one of the largest human service agencies in the two state area serving more than 125,000 clients annually. We are looking for passionate, mission‑driven individuals like you to help provide services including outpatient behavioral health management, international, domestic and special needs adoptions, older adult services, support services for children, youth and families, community corrections programs and support services for adults with disabilities and/or mental health concerns.

Motivated by the compassion of Christ, we help people improve the quality of their lives. Does this describe your personal mission statement? Are you motivated to serve by sharing your talents? If you would like to help us achieve our mission, we are looking for a dedicated and passionate Hybrid‑Remote, Certified Peer Support Specialist to join our Family Centered Treatment Team.

If you're driven by the desire to make a real difference in the lives of families in their communities, this as‑needed position could be your next career move! The FCT/FCT‑R Team also provides individual and team supervision on a weekly basis as part of our evidence‑based model. Qualified candidates will currently hold a certificate as a Peer Specialist through the State of Wisconsin.

This is a part‑time, as‑needed position. There is an additional $1/hour for candidates that are bilingual in Spanish. Also a $1.50 per hour increase upon completing the FCT Peer Endorsement Certification. This role will work primarily with clients navigating substance use recovery.

This position will serve Milwaukee and Sheboygan counties.

A Certified Peer Support Specialist is a person who has his/her own lived experience of mental health and/or substance use challenges and has completed formal training and certification in the peer specialist model of mental health and substance‑use‑oriented peer support.

Peer Specialists use their unique set of lived experiences and recovery in combination with comprehensive skills training, including continuing education, to support people living with mental health and/or substance use challenges. The specialists actively center peer support and associated principles in their work while operating under a clearly defined role and collaborate in a complementary fashion as part of an agency's team support structure.

The FCT team is a fully implemented and home‑based evidence‑based trauma treatment model used to stabilize or reunify families. Our goal is to help families identify practical solutions to solve problems to keep them together in the community and to treat inter‑generational trauma. Our core belief is that recipients are great people with tremendous internal strengths and resources.

Responsibilities
  • Work a flexible weekly schedule that includes some evening hours for client appointments, bases on client/family availability
  • Learn the evidence‑based framework of FCT and the four phases of treatment‑including completing online FCT training supported by the supervisor and team trainer
  • Provides direct peer support using methods compatible with FCT principles and practices for assigned cases and meets fidelity requirements for treatment intensity as part of a team of providers (5 hours per week per family). Caseloads vary depending on referrals for the FCT‑Recovery program and depending on travel
  • Maintain clear, concise, and timely documentation records in an Electronic Health Record system to meet state, county and EBP standards
  • Collaborate with all relevant systems and key participants to ensure buy‑in and cooperation throughout FCT treatment
  • Participate in weekly individual and team supervision and provide kind, direct, and honest feedback to team members, including participation in peer reviews
  • Participate in a rotating 24/7 phone support system that has been established by the team or as needed for clients that are engaged in Peer Support Services
