The team partners closely with Regional Centers, Independent Facilitators, and support networks to provide individualized coaching in community integration, wellness, budgeting, employment readiness, transportation, technology, self-advocacy, and daily living skills.

Role Description The Disability Rights Coordinator is a full-time, hybrid role based in San Mateo, CA, with some flexibility for work from home. This role is responsible for supporting participants in understanding and exercising their rights, including self-advocacy, informed decision-making, and access to services. Day-to-day tasks include meeting with participants and their support teams, reviewing individualized plans, and ensuring that services align with person-centered goals and Regional Center guidelines.

The coordinator will provide education on disability rights, monitor for potential rights violations or barriers, and collaborate with internal staff and external partners to resolve issues. Additional responsibilities include maintaining clear documentation, preparing reports, contributing to program development, and participating in community outreach and training initiatives.

Qualifications

• Experience in disability advocacy, disability services coordination, or related social services, with a strong commitment to person-centered and rights-based support.
• Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities, Regional Center systems in California, and relevant regulations or best practices in disability rights.
• Skills in case management, service planning, and coordination with interdisciplinary teams, including families, facilitators, and community partners.
• Strong communication, documentation, and active listening skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible language.
• Demonstrated cultural humility and ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, languages, and family structures.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and balance in-person responsibilities in San Mateo, CA with remote work requirements.
• Proficiency with common office and collaboration tools (e.g., email, video conferencing, shared documents) and openness to learning new technology used by participants.
• Relevant education in social work, psychology, disability studies, human services, or a related field; equivalent experience in disability support or advocacy is also valued.
• Experience with independent living or self-determination programs is preferred; bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
