As an enthusiastic group of individuals, we share a passion for mathematics, a delight in assisting others, and a drive to unravel complex challenges. Our diverse team comprises members who have dedicated decades to the department alongside those who joined only recently. Characterized by our patience and attentive listening, we take immense pride in delivering top‑tier customer service. We are the Taxation Division Team!

What

We Do

The Collection Section manages approximately 300,000 customer accounts annually. As dedicated stewards of the state’s revenue, our unit focuses on recovering overdue tax obligations and resolving complex billing issues. We interact with taxpayers navigating the collection process, which may involve prior engagement with external collection agencies or the implementation of legal enforcement measures, such as wage garnishments, bank levies, property liens, or court orders.

Key activities for members of the Collection Section include:

  • Primary Responsibility:
    Respond to an average of 70 inbound phone calls per day in a sometimes confrontational environment, yet providing exceptional customer service;

  • Educate inbound callers on specific and ambiguous tax issues administered by the Department of Revenue, ensuring compliance with Colorado tax laws and collection procedures;

  • Managing official correspondence and accurately processing account adjustments—such as payment plan setups and balance corrections—to ensure the prompt resolution of billing discrepancies; and

  • Maintaining a high standard of professional customer service, including the effective de‑escalation of conflicts.

Initial onboarding and training span roughly three weeks, necessitating daily in‑person attendance at our Denver facility located at 2829 W. Howard Pl., Denver, CO 80204. Upon the successful conclusion of this period, and barring any unforeseen issues, examiners typically transition to a remote work-from‑home setting, with infrequent visits to the Denver office as required. We encourage candidates residing 50 miles or further from this location to explore specific travel expectations with the hiring supervisor during their interview.
