Position Highlights

The Community Engagement Coordinator supports the Center for Rural Health's Rural Health Overdose Data to Action program by finalizing research projects, outreach activities, and community engagement initiatives focused on substance use prevention. This position is responsible for completing pending deliverables, developing training materials for substance use prevention screening in non-traditional settings, and organizing comprehensive documentation for program evaluation and knowledge transfer.

The coordinator will prepare handover materials and ensure smooth transition of work to future staff while maintaining organized documentation of all project activities. This is a hybrid and flexible remote position requiring expertise in substance use prevention, harm reduction, and opioid use disorder.

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining on-site work at the University of Arizona campus with remote work flexibility.

Duties & Responsibilities

Completion of Assigned Work:

  • Finalize all pending tasks related to research and outreach/community engagement needed for the Rural Health Overdose Data to Action program, such as technical assistance community partner projects and video development.
  • Finalize research and develop training for substance use prevention screening for non-traditional settings.
  • Ensure all deliverables, reports, training materials or project outputs are completed to the extent possible within the appointed time.
  • Document any incomplete work or anticipated delays and communicate with supervisor.

Documentation and Research:

  • Organize and submit all relevant documents, datasets, materials, outreach resources and other pertinent information for the quarterly and end of year evaluation.
  • Prepare summaries or handover notes describing status of deliverables.
  • Present finalized research or outreach/community engagement findings at relevant meetings.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Organize programmatic files, datasets and other documentation of the project in appropriate shared drives.

Knowledge Transfer:

  • Provide guidance and materials that may aid future student employees or project staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Asana (project management tool), SharePoint and UA Box (document storage tools), Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Qualtrics or REDcap (assessment tools) independently, among other project tools.
  • Skilled in managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work with people with life challenges and who are under-resourced—interest in achieving health equity and access for all.
  • Ability to use healthy communication with students, team members, project leadership, community members, and health professionals.
  • Ability to support leadership to ensure project teams to meet and exceed project goals and to use dynamic leadership styles to influence the work of others.
  • Understanding of and experience in substance use prevention, harm reduction, treatment and recovery and specifically opioid use disorder.
