Job Summary

This position is a direct care/essential role that provides direct and engaging supervision of youth in DYS State‑operated Secure Facilities. Key duties include safety/security, youth center programming, documentation and reporting, training, and organizational accountability. Positions may require overtime on a rotating basis based on business needs.

Shift types include swing and overnight. Typical hours:
Front End 11 a‑9 p or 12:30 p‑10:30 p;
Front End Overnight 10:15 p‑8:15 a;
Back End Wednesday‑Saturday 11 a‑9 p or 12:30 p‑10:30 p;
Back End Overnight Thursday 10 p‑11 a;
Friday & Saturday 9:30 p‑11:30 a.

• Safety & Security
  :
  Provide direct care, safety, security and supervision of adjudicated/pre‑adjudicated youth in a secure setting; supervise behavior management plans, youth groups, daily activities, youth orientation, crisis intervention, de‑escalation, and incident reporting.
• Youth Center Programming
  :
  Implement youth center behavioral management program, coach and redirect youth, support DYS initiatives and crisis intervention.
• Documentation & Reporting
  :
  Record observations, activities, and required information in logs and database systems; document youth group activities.
• Organizational Accountability
  :
  Promote a trauma‑responsive environment, adhere to CDHS Code of Conduct, DYS compliance standards, and policies; model values of non‑violence, open communication, social responsibility, growth and change.
• Training
  :
  Complete DYS Pre‑Service training academy, youth center training, orientation; complete assigned online training and support behavior management strategies.

• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
• No substitutions allowed.
• Full background check required (CBI name check, fingerprint, court database, Medicare fraud database, reference checks, professional license verification, drug screen, PREA, Trails, CAPS).
• Minimum age 21, no felony convictions or history of domestic violence.
• Valid, unrestricted Colorado driver’s license.
• Ability and willingness to work shift hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Physical ability to stand on feet all shift, climb stairs, and physically intervene with assaultive youth.

• College education in behavioral health or juvenile justice‑related field.
• Experience working with adjudicated or detained youth in a secure residential facility or behavioral health setting.
• Experience facilitating psycho educational groups.
• Experience working with adolescents with trauma.
• Experience mentoring or coaching youth in positive leadership roles.
• Experience using verbal de‑escalation and motivational techniques.
• Relevant years of state service experience.

• Self‑control, composure, and ability to manage stressful situations.
• Clear verbal communication and respectful communication.
• Ability to identify and act on changes, hazards or potential security breaches and communicate pertinent information verbally.
• Ability to study information and recount events in a written, factual, concise, and legible method.

• Shift work: evenings, nights, weekends, holidays (8–12 hour shifts). Mandatory overtime may be required.
• Shift may vary across agencies; day shift usually unavailable for this role.
• Position considered essential; may be required to report during inclement weather.
• Travel may be required for transportation of youth and training at alternate sites.
