Software Engineer; Python​/Linux​/Packaging

Overview

Software Engineer (Python/Linux/Packaging) at Canonical — for Python, Packaging and Linux skills to support the day-to-day workflow of snap, rock and charm publishers and to help ship software to a wide audience.

• Design and maintain specialist Python tools to support the developer build and publication process.
• Develop tooling that builds snaps, charms and Rocks.
• Contribute to Snapcraft, Charm craft and Rockcraft to enable delivery of updates and packaging of software for Ubuntu-based environments.
• Collaborate with external open source and commercial projects to understand and serve community needs.

• Expertise in Python.
• Strong understanding of the makeup of a modern GNU/Linux distribution.
• Good understanding of build systems and tool chains, including for cross-compilation.
• Experience with container technology (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, LXD).
• Ability to extend the snap build ecosystem using languages, tool chains, frameworks, integrations, and CI systems.
• Experience working with external open source and commercial projects to understand user needs.
