We’re partnering with a US-based insurtech company that operates as a Managing General Agent (MGA). They specialize in providing homeowners insurance in high-risk wildfire areas in California, leveraging data, predictive models, satellite imagery, and AI to evaluate risks with precision.

The team’s mission is to enhance compliance processes and data flows, ensuring seamless integration between systems and APIs. It’s a collaborative environment where communication, adaptability, and continuous learning are highly valued.

• Build and maintain backend services using NestJS + Type Script within a shared backend codebase.
• Design, document, and expose RESTful APIs across multiple internal systems.
• Work extensively with Sequelize + Postgre
  
  SQL to query, transform, and persist data.
• Analyze semi-structured data (JSON/JSONB) and evolve it into well-modeled, relational schemas.
• Review existing database structures, detect inconsistencies, and propose improvements aligned with product and data teams.
• Create and update database schemas, including models and migrations.
• Write advanced SQL queries, including basic PostGIS for validations or reporting (beyond simple CRUD).
• Write unit and integration tests using Jest, ensuring maintainable, high-quality code.
• Interact with cloud infrastructure using AWS services (S3, Lambda, RDS).
• Contribute ideas to improve data quality, performance, and long-term architecture.
• Collaborate closely with product, data, and frontend teams to deliver end-to-end features.
• Participate in a feedback-driven, learning-oriented culture where your input matters.

• 5+ years of experience in backend development.
• Strong knowledge of Node.js, Type Script, and REST APIs.
• Solid foundation in relational databases and data modeling, including migrating semi-structured data to normalized schemas.
• Ability to write SQL queries beyond simple CRUD operations (validations, aggregations, complex joins, PostGIS basics).
• Experience with Sequelize and PostgreSQL

• Familiarity with AWS integrations, especially S3, RDS, and Lambdas.
• English level B2 or higher (spoken & written).
• Product mindset and ownership when building and improving features.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, async-friendly, remote team.

• Familiarity with cloud-native patterns or serverless functions.
• Experience in insurance or analytics-heavy environments.
• Basic Python for scripting or data tasks.
• Basic understanding of React or Next.js.
