Timely Care is higher education’s most trusted virtual health and well-being provider, serving millions of students, educators, and staff at 400+ campuses nationwide. Founded in 2017, Timely Care pioneered the first telehealth solution built exclusively for higher education, with a mission to foster student success and improve the health and well-being of campus communities. Today, its comprehensive suite of services – including mental health counseling, on-demand emotional support, medical care, psychiatric care, health coaching, basic needs assistance, faculty and staff guidance, success coaching, peer support, and self-guided wellness tools – expands the breadth of campus resources and empowers student success.

The Role

Timely Care is seeking a Senior Software Architect to help shape the technical future of our platform. Reporting to the Director of Architecture, you will work closely with engineering teams to design and evolve a cohesive, scalable architecture while championing an outstanding developer experience.

In addition to core architecture responsibilities, this role will play a key part in defining our AI-first development approach—including designing and implementing autonomous agents, crafting robust MCP (Model Context Protocol) layers, and pioneering patterns for AI-native features across our products and internal tooling.

If you enjoy designing systems end-to-end, solving complex technical problems, and making it easier and more joyful for engineers to build both traditional and AI-powered software, we’d love to talk.

Location

Timely Care’s primary location is Fort Worth, Texas. This is a remote position, reviewing candidates across the country.

What You’ll Do

Collaborate with the Director of Architecture, engineering leaders, and product partners to define and maintain the target architecture and technical roadmap for Timely Care’s platform.

Design end-to-end solutions across our ecosystem (web, mobile, services, data, and integrations) that are secure, scalable, observable, and resilient.

Work closely with engineering teams to break down complex business problems into well-architected services, APIs, and data models with clear domain boundaries.

Define and promote architectural standards, patterns, and best practices (e.g., API-first development, event-driven systems, microservices, and domain-driven design).

Developer Experience & Engineering Enablement

Champion developer experience by improving local development workflows, build tooling, and CI/CD pipelines.

Help standardize testing strategies, observability practices, and documentation across teams.

Reduce friction and cognitive load for engineers through thoughtful platform, library, and framework decisions.

Build reference implementations and starter templates using our core technologies (Type Script, Node.js, React/React Native/Next.js, AWS).

AI-First & Agentic Architecture

Partner with product and engineering to identify high-value use cases for AI-powered and agentic experiences in both customer-facing features and internal tools.

Design and implement autonomous agents that can orchestrate workflows, call tools/APIs, and safely take actions within our platform.

Architect and evolve MCP layers that provide consistent, secure, and observable access to internal systems, tools, and data for AI models and agents.

Define AI-first patterns for retrieval, tool orchestration, prompt/interaction design, and safety/guardrails, and package them into reusable building blocks for teams.

Build prototypes and reference implementations that demonstrate AI-native capabilities, then guide teams in hardening and scaling those solutions.

Partner with Security, Compliance, and Data teams to ensure AI and agentic systems are safe, auditable, and aligned with healthcare and privacy requirements.

Participate in planning and refinement to ensure architectural runway and technical constraints are understood and accounted for early.

Provide hands-on guidance and mentorship to engineers on system design, performance, scalability,…
