Position: Senior Software Engineer - Java (Remote)

Overview

Remote role available at the following locations: AZ, FL, GA, NC, TX. Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), a division of Citizens Bank, is the bank of the world’s most innovative companies and investors. We are looking for a hands‑on Senior Software Engineer to join the growing SVB Go Online Banking delivery team, which provides technology solutions and integration services in Digital Banking, Core banking, Credit/Charge/Debit Cards, and Foreign Exchange.
The ideal candidate will provide technical guidance, estimate efforts, decide on optimal technology solutions to meet business needs, support day‑to‑day application operations, navigate gray/unknown areas, and demonstrate excellent communication with IT management, developers, and business stakeholders. The candidate will move rapidly to deliver requests, exploit opportunities, navigate resources, and balance short‑ and long‑term strategic views. They will develop code and oversee distributed development team members.

Responsibilities

As a Sr. Software Engineer, your primary responsibility will be the development and support of Digital Banking solutions and projects. You will manage all software aspects within the team, including research, design, technology integration, development, testing, and support.

  • Design and develop technical solutions that meet user needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Oversee proactive maintenance on our existing IaaS/SaaS and on‑premise applications in Digital Banking, Mobile, and integration with Cards, Merchant Services, Payments, Foreign Exchange, Core banking, and Trade Finance to ensure our mission‑critical systems remain stable, scalable, and fit‑for‑purpose.
  • Coordinate and assist with troubleshooting code defects, data errors, and configuration problems to determine application error origins.
  • Provide strong experience supporting business‑critical/complex applications.
  • Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Nice to have technical lead experience for small to medium‑sized projects.
  • Drive departmental best practices, guideline implementation, and adherence to standards.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and developing real‑time integrations, file‑based integrations, and optimizing database‑level processing.
  • Show empathy with developers and an innate desire to create a superlative developer experience down to the last detail.
  • Love building elegant, maintainable, well‑documented, secure code.
  • Treat abstracting and refactoring as a passion, not a chore.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and 4+ years of experience in application software programming OR High School Diploma or GED and 8+ years of experience in application software programming.

Preferred Skills
  • Excellent ability to communicate technical information clearly and work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong design & development experience with Java EE & Enterprise Technologies: JMS, JDBC, web development, transactions, WS‑*, JVM, JSP, Servlets, EJB, JNDI, JMX, JTA, Spring, JUnit, Hibernate.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience building Spring Boot microservices.
  • Experience building applications using container architecture with Kubernetes orchestration.
  • Preferred experience on public API development and using API Gateways like APIGEE.
  • In‑depth understanding of JavaScript, including ES6+ features, Loopback, closures, and asynchronous programming.
  • Worked on Agile projects and has complete knowledge of day‑to‑day Agile routines.
  • Proven experience in building user interfaces with React.js.
  • Familiarity with state‑management libraries like Redux or MobX.
  • Understanding of the React component lifecycle and its best practices.
  • Experience with testing frameworks like Jest or Mocha.
  • Ability to interact with REST APIs and handle data fetching and manipulation.
  • Proficient in using Git Lab for version control.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, and Oracle database systems.
  • Understanding of basic UI/UX design principles.
  • Prior experience with regulated financial organizations is a plus.
