Senior Software Engineer

Location: Nashville, TN or Cincinnati, OH metro areas (Hybrid Remote/Office Position)

We are seeking an experienced and highly technical Senior Software Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be a key individual contributor responsible for building and maintaining software and infrastructure. This is a highly technical role. You should be able to collaborate and execute with a small team of developers and engage in day-to-day technical work without significant direct supervision.

We use AI extensively for code generation, documentation, testing, and deployment. Comfort and enthusiasm for AI-powered development tools is essential.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Plan, design, build and maintain software products.
• Neural Payments software is cloud native and highly automated. As such, we are always supporting and expanding our automation and maintenance tooling.
• Design software architecture and implementation details from highly dynamic interactions with the business and customers.
• Perform code reviews and deployments.
• Support infrastructure, automation, and tooling.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project goals, scope, and timelines.
• Maintain system health and uptime.
• Drive improvements to system performance, monitoring, automation, maintainability, and extensibility.
• Dive into solving occasional service disruptions.
• Help customers with onboarding, reporting, and technical support.

Neural Payments is interested in your passion for software development and your passion for learning. Previous cloud/web experience on any stack is required. Previous experience with our particular technology stack is not as important as your eagerness to dive in and learn. Our stack currently includes Rust, React, Type Script, Postgres, SQL and Python hosted on GCP.

Previous fintech experience would be a significant plus. Also, you must have excellent communication skills, self motivated, a positive attitude, and adaptable to change.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts effectively.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
• Strong work ethic; a highly motivated self starter and amicable team player.
• Comfort with and enthusiasm about AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Cursor is required.
• Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages.
• Proficiency in Rust, Python & Django, React & Typescript, and Postgres is highly desirable
• Strong SQL skills are required.
• Strong experience with any relational database engine.
• Proficiency with Postgres or Google Cloud
  
  SQL is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of at least one cloud environment (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure).
• Proficiency in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a significant plus.
• Strong git skills are required.
• Proficiency with Terraform, Kubernetes, Google Cloud Build, and github is highly desirable.
• Previous fintech or financial services experience is a plus.
• Willingness to work from the office in either Nashville, TN or Cincinnati, OH metro areas about once per week.
