Staff Software Engineer – AI

Thomson Reuters is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to build AI‑driven software that redefines how professionals work. You will develop AI‑powered systems that enhance tax & accounting workflows through automation, intelligence, and seamless orchestration.

• Architect and implement complex AI systems including multi‑component pipelines, Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, and custom AI agents.
• Ensure system quality and compliance by implementing comprehensive testing frameworks, monitoring tools, and ethical AI practices.
• Proactively identify issues and risks, make data‑driven recommendations, and take corrective action to optimize performance.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Product, UX, Science) to align AI features with product goals and translate functional requirements into robust technical specifications.
• Conduct proof‑of‑concepts (POCs) to evaluate emerging technologies and explore feasibility of AI solutions.
• Analyze existing systems and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency, scalability, and overall architecture.
• Mentor and guide AI engineers, fostering technical growth and career development.

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years focused on AI/ML.
• Proficiency in Python and experience building web applications, distributed systems, and APIs.
• Experience with AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch and Tensor Flow.
• Strong understanding of AI/ML systems including RAG architectures, AI agents, and agent‑based systems; experience with APIs from OpenAI, Anthropic.
• Experience integrating AI models into production systems using APIs, data pipelines; knowledge of vector databases, embeddings, search‑based AI.
• Strong understanding of machine learning principles, model evaluation, system design, and MLOps across the end‑to‑end lifecycle.
• Proven cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and data scientists and passion for exploring new technologies.

• 2–4 years of AWS designing, deploying, and operating scalable cloud services (Lambda, S3, EC2, etc.).

Base compensation range: $127,400 – $236,600 (US). Eligible for annual bonus and other incentives.
