- Shape the core experience for 10M+ daily readers. Join the team behind Scribd’s primary reading experience and directly impact how millions of users explore and learn from our 300,000+ document corpus.
- Experiment at the intersection of product and AI. Partner with Product, Design, and AI/ML teams to rapidly prototype and launch experiments that elevate engagement and comprehension on the document reading page.
- Build new creation experiences from 0→1. Develop tools that empower users to synthesize research and produce study guides, presentations, and documents — all enhanced by generative AI.
- Improve SEO and AEO. Work with our SEO PM to improve search and answer engine traffic to the Core Scribd pages.
- Modernize our tech stack for the future. Lead efforts to decompose the Ruby-on-Rails monolith into a modern, modular microfront end architecture powered by Next.js and a distributed backend.
As a Full Stack Engineer on the Core Scribd team, you’ll contribute to building and maintaining both the frontend and backend systems powering Scribd’s document reading page. You’ll work on full-stack features that help users on a research journey find and parse the right document. This role spans React-based UI to distributed backend services, with collaboration across product, design, AI/ML and infrastructure teams.
- Work closely with Design and PM on new frontend features using React/Next.js, Graph
QL, Typescript, and Ruby on Rails - Contribute to a shared design system
- Make contributions to improving our frontend infrastructure
- Maintain and improve our backend in-document search service and spin up new services as needed in Python
- Collaborate with Data/ML and Content Pipeline teams to build new features and improvements to our document ingestion infrastructure
- Strong understanding of modern JavaScript frameworks, especially React
- 5+ years of professional experience across the stack, especially React, Next.js & Ruby on Rails
- Experience with database technologies (SQL, Postgres and MySQL)
- Understanding of AWS cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with performance, accessibility, and SEO principles across the stack
- Strong collaboration skills with design, product, and other engineering teams
- Thoughtful approach to code quality, maintainability, and documentation
- Optional experience with Node and Go services
At Scribd, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package and is determined within a range. Salary ranges are based on local cost of labor benchmarks for each role, level, and geographic location.
California: roughly $146,000 to $227,500. United States (outside California): roughly $120,000 to $216,500. Canada: roughly $152,500 CAD to $202,500 CAD. The salary range may vary with experience, skill sets, and other business needs. This position is eligible for equity and a comprehensive benefits package.
Working LocationEmployees must have their primary residence in or near listed cities, including surrounding metro areas within typical commuting distance across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
