Software Engineer, Backend Developer

Title: Software Engineer
Location: Bethesda, MD (remote)
Type: Contract

Our direct client is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer who will develop features and improvements to products in a secure, well-tested, and performant way.

• Work with Product Management and other stakeholders (backend, UX, etc.) to iterate on new features.
• Write code that meets our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale web environment.
• Maintain and advocate for these standards through code review.
• Learn, collaborate, and teach other Software Engineers.
• Identify areas of improvements in the code base, both specific to your group and outside your group (e.g., component library) and help contribute to make it better.
• Other related duties as assigned.

• Technical / science Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.
• 4+ years of work-related experience.
• Professional experience with React and Node.js is required, along with strong proficiency in Next.js for frontend development and Nest.js for backend services.
• Experience with web application development.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD.
• Understanding of Dev Ops processes and appreciation for the value technologies like Serverless and Kubernetes bring to the software deployment and development process.
• A solid understanding in core web and browser concepts.
• A solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and core JavaScript concepts.
• A solid understanding of relational data and / or non-relational models.
• Experience with performance and optimization problems and a demonstrated ability to both diagnose and prevent these problems.
• Experience with the Spring Framework may be needed to support and enhance existing Java-based services and integrations.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to regularly achieve consensus with peers and provide clear status updates.
