About this role:

• Our mission is to create effortless, customer-centric, habit-forming digital experiences that enable clients to solve mission-critical priorities. We seek an experienced Sr. Search Engineer to help build and enhance a scalable, high-performance search platform. As data volumes grow and queries become more complex, we need deep expertise in search technologies such as Open Search, Elasticsearch, Apache Solr, or Lucene to push our infrastructure forward.
• In this role, you’ll implement advanced search capabilities, including vector search, natural language processing (NLP), and personalization, to improve search relevancy and user experience. You’ll collaborate with data engineering, data science, and cloud teams to design robust search platforms, data pipelines, and integrate machine learning models that refine search results. Strong knowledge of distributed systems, API development, and performance optimization is required.

What you’ll do:

• Technical Collaboration & Leadership:
  Provide technical leadership in search technologies, guiding cross-functional projects with data science, engineering, and infrastructure teams.
• Developing Search Algorithms:
  Implement advanced search algorithms leveraging vector search, NLP, personalization, and other state-of-the-art techniques.
• Relevancy Model Development:
  Collaborate with ML and data science teams to optimize relevancy models, incorporating feedback loops and behavioral data.
• Developing APIs:
  Create APIs or services to integrate relevancy feature embeddings into the search engine and develop efficient, real-time search query logic.
• A/B Testing and Experimentation:
  Implement frameworks for A/B testing to compare approaches, measure outcomes, and drive improvements.
• Infrastructure Optimization:
  Ensure scalability and robustness of the search infrastructure as it grows.
• Performance Tuning:
  Improve query response times, accuracy, and relevancy based on metrics.
• Integration:
  Integrate the search infrastructure with other services and data platforms for data retrieval, indexing, and monitoring.
• Data Pipeline Management:
  Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines for efficient data flow, low-latency indexing, and real-time search capabilities.
• Data Analysis:
  Analyze search patterns and relevancy metrics to refine algorithms and improve user experience.
• Search Result Tuning Based on Business Metrics:
  Align results with business goals like conversion, engagement, and retention.
• Contribute to review and analysis of business requirements.
• Code reviews, peer inspections, and technical design/specifications.
• Ensure code integrity and best practices.

Must have:

• 5+ years of post-college experience in Software Engineering, API development, or related fields with strong problem-solving skills and high ownership.
• Experience with search engines such as Open Search, Elasticsearch, Solr, or similar; proficiency in vector search, NLP, and personalization for relevancy scoring.
• Strong understanding of concurrency patterns and building thread-safe, high-performance code.
• Solid knowledge of Data Structures, Algorithms, and Design Patterns for building efficient systems.
• Experience developing and maintaining production-scale, customer-facing web services.
• Experience leading teams in building search applications from scratch or migrating between search engines.
• Proficiency in writing high-quality production code and software engineering fundamentals.
• In-depth knowledge of relevancy metrics (precision, recall, DCG) and applying them to improve performance.
