The Head of Software Engineering is responsible for leading the global software engineering organization to deliver innovative, compliant, and scalable solutions that accelerate scientific discovery and transform patient outcomes worldwide. Drive technology strategy and execution across multiple geographies, ensuring seamless integration of advanced platforms that enable data‑driven insights and competitive advantage for the business. This position reports to the Vice President of R&D and is part of the Beckman Life Sciences Research and Development department working remotely to cover multiple regions.
InThis Role, You Will Have The Opportunity To
- Define and execute the global software engineering strategy aligned with corporate objectives and R&D priorities
- Drive adoption of modern architectures, cloud platforms, AI/ML, and emerging technologies to accelerate life sciences solutions
- Build, lead, and mentor a diverse, high‑performing engineering organization across multiple geographies
- Oversee end‑to‑end software development lifecycle, ensuring quality, scalability, security, and compliance with industry standards
- Partner with R&D, product management, data science, and regulatory teams to deliver integrated solutions
- Governance & Compliance – Establish robust processes for cybersecurity, data privacy, and regulatory compliance in all software products
- Budget & Resource Optimization – Manage global engineering budgets, vendor relationships, and resource allocation to maximize ROI
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and 20+ years’ experience in software engineering; or Master’s/Doctoral degree with at least 6+ years in a global leadership role
- Strong understanding of life sciences, healthcare, or regulated industries
- Expertise in modern software architectures (microservices, cloud‑native), Dev Ops, and data platforms
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (FDA, HIPAA, GDPR, GxP)
- Experience managing distributed teams across multiple time zones and cultures
- Ability to align technology initiatives with business goals and communicate effectively with executive stakeholders
- Track record of driving digital transformation and fostering innovation at scale
- Ability to travel – 25% domestically and internationally
- Instrument Firmware/Software design and development
- Cloud design and development
- Systems engineering and architecture expertise
The annual salary range for this role is $200,000 - $260,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
