Backend Developer, Cloud Engineer - Software
Job Description
As Staff Backend Engineer on the DevX Team, you own the backend side of the quality and standards mission. The client runs backend services in Golang on AWS, and those services need to be reliable, observable, and built to a consistent standard. You will work hands‑on to improve existing services, establish backend engineering standards, and ensure that the DevX Team can drive improvements end‑to‑end — without depending on other teams to implement the backend half of the work.
You'll work closely with the Solutions Architect on integration design — including our relationship with 3rd party integrations, internal platform powering menu, cart, ordering, payment, store, and checkout — and with product engineering teams to bring backend standards to life in their codebases. Additional tasks will include:
- Work hands‑on in our Golang services — improving reliability, observability, error handling, and code quality
- Establish backend engineering standards for our Go codebase: structure, logging, error modeling, testing patterns, API and Graph
QL contract discipline - Drive adoption of those standards across product engineering teams through pairing, code review, documentation, and direct mentorship
- Partner with the Solutions Architect to implement integration improvements — ensuring backend services hold up their end of the API and Graph
QL contracts consumed by our web and mobile clients - Instrument and monitor backend service health using Data Dog — structured logging, distributed tracing, dashboards, and alerting
- Contribute to infrastructure standards in collaboration with Platform Engineering — Kubernetes, Docker/Rancher, and IaC tooling (e.g. Terraform)
- Support the restaurant‑side technology organization in adopting backend standards where relevant

QL server‑side experience — schema design, resolver patterns, federation or stitching where applicable
Experience improving observability in production systems using Data Dog — structured logging, distributed tracing with Open Telemetry or DDTrace, metrics and alerting
Strong API design instincts — REST and Graph

A track record of establishing and driving backend engineering standards across teams - Experience working alongside or on a platform, DevX, or SRE‑adjacent team
