Position: Staff Software Engineer II

Staff Software Engineer (Full Stack) – Forward Engineering

Join Thomson Reuters’ Forward Engineering team and help build the next generation of AI‑driven, agent‑centric applications that redefine how our internal teams work. This role is ideal for a senior full‑stack engineer who thrives in fast‑paced environments, adopts AI coding tools to accelerate development, and enjoys partnering closely with AI Engineers and business stakeholders to bring new interaction models to life.

About

the Role

As a Staff Full‑Stack Engineer, you will translate complex business challenges into intuitive, efficient applications that integrate seamlessly with evolving AI systems. You’ll shape how TR builds software in an era where human users and AI agents collaborate through adaptive, goal‑driven interfaces.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop full‑stack applications designed around agent‑centric workflows, enabling smooth human‑AI collaboration through adaptive UIs and intelligent backend services.
  • Create modular, cloud‑native APIs that support agent context, state management, and structured tool invocation across distributed AI systems.
  • Work closely with AI Engineers to design UI, API, and service‑layer experiences that expose agent capabilities to internal users and developers.
  • Use modern frontend and backend tech (React/Next.js, Vue/Nuxt, Angular, Node.js, Python/FastAPI, Java/Spring, .NET) while upholding best practices in API design, state management, CI/CD, testing, performance, and observability.
  • Build quick, exploratory prototypes to test new interaction models, learn from user feedback, and influence product direction.
  • Lead architectural decisions, mentor engineers, elevate engineering quality, and drive best practices across experimentation and modular design.
  • Partner with business units, product teams, AI Engineers, and SMEs to co‑create solutions, shape priorities, and document architectures for broader adoption.
About You – Required Skills & Experience
  • 8+ years of full‑stack engineering experience with ownership of production applications and APIs.
  • Deep expertise in at least one modern frontend and backend stack.
  • Ability to quickly learn new tools and adapt engineering patterns for AI‑driven development.
  • Familiarity with AI‑powered systems (APIs, data flows, model integration) and eagerness to partner with AI Engineers.
  • Experience building systems in cloud‑native environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and using Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Proven leadership in driving technical initiatives and guiding multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication, product intuition, and comfort working in fast‑moving, exploratory environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Git Hub Copilot, etc.) to accelerate understanding, design, and implementation across large codebases.
  • Ability to leverage AI agents to scale development (parallelizing tasks, accelerating code review, fast iteration from feedback).
  • Demonstrated 0to1 prototyping ability with a start‑up‑like mindset.
Benefits & Work‑Life Balance
  • Hybrid work model: flexible hybrid environment with 2‑3 days a week in the office, and work from anywhere for up to 8 weeks per year.
  • Flexibility & work‑life balance through Flex My Way policies and supportive workplace programs.
  • Career development and growth through Grow My Way programming and skill‑first approach.
  • Industry‑competitive benefits including flexible vacation, two company‑wide mental health days off, Headspace app, retirement savings, tuition reimbursement, employee incentive programs, and resources for mental, physical, and financial wellbeing.
  • Global recognition for inclusion and belonging, and a culture focused on customer obsession, winning competitiveness, challenging thinking, fast learning, and collaboration.
  • Social impact initiatives—paid volunteer days and ESG projects—supporting community engagement.
  • Commitment to delivering justice, truth, and transparency to the world.
