Data Scientist, Machine Learning/ ML Engineer
The AI, Cloud, and Engineering (ACE) Team at Genentech is seeking a highly motivated intern to work on causal machine learning methods. Increases in computational power and the curation of extensive image and language data have enabled the creation of highly realistic generative models. However, in the field of healthcare, where data is often scarce, heterogeneous, and multimodal, these models have been less successful in capturing the underlying data generating mechanisms.
Clinical experts and statisticians often rely on causal knowledge, or partial causal knowledge, to analyze and interpret their research. The intern will focus on developing methods for infusing causal assumptions into current machine learning algorithms to improve model robustness to distribution shifts and spurious correlations. This internship provides an opportunity for a graduate student with a strong background in machine learning to apply their skills in the healthcare field.
This is a remote graduate-level internship position, with a duration of 12 weeks, starting in May/June 2024.
